Using the HL editing forum: A Brief Guide..

Please take a few minutes to read this guide, so that this forum can continue to help people efficiently

NOTE: CoD/MoH/Quake3
and ALL other Radiant editor based questions belong in the RADIANT
EDITOR forum! Both boards function in exactly the same way, but this is
specifically for Half-Life - AND NOT HALF LIFE 2. If you have problems with a Half Life 2 map, please post in the "Half Life 2 editing" forum. Common sense.

Posting Topics/Questions
If you have come to this board to ask a question we ask that you search for a solution to your problem in the editing database first - this prevents wasting your time, and our time - and of course its quicker than waiting for replies!
However, some questions havent been answered before, so you will have to ask. If you have more than one different problem, make a separate thread for each one!
If, for instance you were experiencing problems with light entities, you would call the topic something like..

Subject: "light entity problem/s"Description: "doesnt switch on with multi manager"
Body of the topic
Try and post as much information as you can, but only that is relevant to your problem - be it compile logs, entity setups, folder paths, screenshots etc.
Also it will help if you can explain how to replicate the problem,
and machine specs are also useful. Don't wiffle on about the problem - be clear and straight to the point, you will get a much faster response.
Closing of the topic
When your topic has had a reply, you will note that if somebody has
proposed an answer - you can mark it as correct, or incorrect - try the
solution, and mark as appropriate. If it is correct, the topic will be
deemed "answered" and filed in the knowledge database.
If not, people will continue to post suggestions for answers until
one or more correct solutions is found for the problem. Our regulars
aim for perfect performance, but it is possible that we cant answer a
question (rarely  )!
Answering questions
If you believe you have the answer to a question, simply reply as normal on the post, but select whether it is a "comment on the problem" or an "answer to the problem".
The poster will then deem if your answer works, and mark
appropriately! Don't get offended if they mark it wrong, it happens to
everyone of us!
Final Note
Please, take the time to answer and post problems on this forum, and adhere to this rough guide as far as possible.
Try and take the extra seconds to produce a sensible, and clear post
  • we understand that not everybodys first language is English, and will
be patient, but laziness is rude, and will probably get you the flaming
of your life.
So go ahead and use this forum, it benefits all mappers, experienced or otherwise... and gives you a nice warm feeling inside
