Your 1st Room

Newbie Tutorial #1
In this tutorial we will learn how to make a simple room with lighting & a deathmatch spawn.

Open CoDRadiant & in your XY Top 2d view left click & drag out a selection of 256 units by 256 units.

This is now our floor.

Now press the space bar to clone this brush, Place it on top of the origional brush & then using the XZ Front view move the brush up above the other a substantial amount by left clicking inside the brush border.

This is our roof. Press escape to finish editing the brush

Now in the XY Top view make a brush on one of the edges of the 2 brushes (all the way along) & then using the XZ Front view, put it between both the floor & the roof brushes leaving no spaces.

This is our 1st wall. Press escape to finish editing the brush

Repeat this for all 4 walls around the 1st 2 brushes until you have a hollow box.

Now we need to texture our room, to do this go to: textures - & then select anything from austra downwards. We'l be using Denmark - Walls for this:

Now select all your brushes with shift+Left click. Press T to display your textures from denmark/walls & select one of them. Now all your brushes have that texture added to them.

Now press escape to finish editing the brushes. Right click in your XY Top view & select the entity "mp - Deathmatch spawn"

Thats our spawning entity. Press escape because we dont need to edit it.

Now right click as you did before & put in the entity "light". Now press N to open the entity tab. Next to key type "light" press return. Next to value type "150" press return. We have now adjusted the intensity to 150.

PRess escape to close the entity tab. Now if you want to change the colour of your light, press K & edit the colour. Perhaps even a 255 blue takes your fancy :S

Now your 1st test map is ready to be compiled. Save your map in tools/game/main/maps (if youve made it) as something like test. Enjoy!
