I have had alot of trouble with custom models, for instance I have a custom Stargate model, but I have never been capable of getting into my new map. I wonder if there is a way to import it to the world model menu you pull up when selecting a model for a prop_static or a prop_physics? I have looked into saving and adding prefabs but those have never really worked for me, if there is a tutorial I didn't find in my searches on this page consulting this problem, please redirect me, but it is hard to make a themed map when the custom props especially for that map cannot be placed in. Thankyou to those of you who help, I have always found the SnarkPit community to be extremely helpful to me as I become more experienced in map making.

First of all, what program do you use to make models?

And do you have the required plugins/scripts to export models from the program that you use?

These are not models that I have made, rather they are ones I have downloaded as custom content for Garrys mod. Is there a program I can use to select the model files and import them to hammer?

Oh..

You should only need to extract them to the moddir then..<br style="color: white;">

Oh thankyou, but I have one last question. Where is the location of the folder I should extract the models to? I have looked around but I have not found a folder that hints to Hammer. Is it in the Sourcesdk_content/hl2mp/modelssrc folder?

It should be " *Steamdir*\SteamApps\SourceMods\gmod " gmod won't be the right folder.. should be similar though..

Also... you should mark answers correct if they are

Well, I have succesfully made a folder, and put the model files into it, and can see the folder in game. But I can not see what my custom models look like, when I select them in the choose world model screen, the names appear but when I look into the 3D view I see no prop, I have put the custom material into the material folder, but still no luck, there is nothing to tell the prop what skins it needs to use. Do you have any advice on the matter?

If possible, post a download link for the models, and I'll take a look and see if they are working properly..

Alright, the download link is http://rapidshare.de/files/27777059/Stargate.rar.html . That should have all of the files needed. Thank you so much for your help, I can't imagine what I would do without it.

Ahh I just found out that there is not one custom prop that I have tried using that shows up in Hammer. When I try to make them, the size of the prop is shown in mesh form, but I can't actually see the prop, it isn't there. I have the materials in the material folder and ect, so I don't know what could possible be wrong!

When I extracted the stargate model it
extracted my model files to " model " instead of " models " and
materials to " material " instead of " materials " Just check make sure
the folder structure is correct.. Here is mine.

Model: gamedir/models/stargate

Materials: gamedir/materials/stargate
