Ths is my first map created after switching to hl2 and it compiles alright but when i go to play it there is no option in new game. there is a start game button but when i click nothing happens. I'm sure i'm missing something but i don't know what it is. was thinking something to do with a "liblist.gam" equivelnt but not sure please help.

You need to enable console and go into it and type: map mapname. Of course, replacing "mapname" with the name of your map. Hit enter, and it should load; that's it!

I guess he actually tried to make a new Mod out of it, I've seen the tool for it in the SDK. This seems to be the new (and pretty straightforward) way of releasing SP packs.

Maybe it has something to do with setting up chapters?

That is exactly what i did yeah, but i'm getting an error message at
the end of compiling but i just figured it to be irrelevant to the
process:

"MountAppFilesystem() failed:
SteamMountAppFilesystem(215,23,0x1287fd74) failed with error 21: A
different version of this FS is already in use"
