Hay

Welcome to the map profile for Reddawn. Reddawn is a single/multiplayer modification for the goldsource engine. Reddawn features new weapons, new monsters, loads of custom content, and some bigger more juicier stuff that will be discussed later on.

Here, you can view pictures taken from my mod (note, all pictures are subject to change), check out some of Reddawn's features, and read and view some other stuff, but most importantly, you can give me your feedback, thoughts or views about the mod or any of the content in this profile.

I will be constantly adding stuff to this profile, this is just the beginning, so come back here regularly if you are interested.

Enjoy  ,
Aaron

Did you change anything in there? I pretty much have the same complaint as before: It's way too dark, there's little contrast. Little contrast in color/texturing also. And it's very big and empty.

I'm afraid you're keeping the boxes untextured mainly because you hope that once they are, they will be so awesome that they can decorated the room enough to make up for the simple concrete walls. I think that's a mistake. Cut these rooms down, make them smaller. You're already having problems filling these areas and it will (from my own experience) only get worse.

I can't help but feel like those huge hallways have no real purpose in the game and will just feel empty.
Why snark works.

Starting with screenshot 1, I noticed that the end of the metal canvas has an easy to see misaligned texture. Naturally, it should be fixed. The only other big gripe I could fine (other than what reaper has pointed out) is that on several occasions, I saw light without a light source. Look at screenshot 2; perhaps there's something there I'm just not seeing, but it appears there are three lights without a light source. Sticking a few light textures or light architecture would definitely help things out.

Edit: And when I say screenshots 1 & 2, I'm refering to the thumbnails.

No nothing has been changed in these pictures from the last time you saw them.

Thanks for your reply reaper47. You have no idea how many people say my screen shots are dark, seriously. In Red Dawn, I am trying to keep everything open and in large scale. However I am seeing problems (as you said) keeping every area interesting and different and filled up. And I am definitely seeing a lack of contrast. If you compare these set of pictures (02) with 01, you will see very similar color and light, even though they are to different spaces that are semi far from each other.

I see what I can do

edit: G.Ballblue quickly squeezed in a comment there. Yes you're right, there are 3 lights with out a light source. Its just a classical case of I'll fix it later than you forget. So far, you are the only person ever to of spoted that error, even people playing it didn't notice it.

And I'll be sure to fix the misaligned textures.

A small snippet of the RedDawn story line.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Level 1, Sunken Ship
The player awakes from his induced sleep on board <CLASSIFIED> when disaster strikes, the Captain sends the player back to Earth in an Escape Pod as the rest of the ship drifts into deep space, all (except for the player ofcourse) are assumed dead.

Level 2, Hexam
The player Lands back on Earth 3 weeks later, in Hexam City. The player quickly discovers the new virus[1] threat which found its way to Earth. As the player escapes the city, deprived of information, about these monsters, he meets up with a group of marines who are fleeing the doomed city. The group leave in time before the humans detonate a large bomb in an effort to kill most of the virus[1].

Level 3, The Storm
The player is transported to the northern outskirts of Hexam to meet up with a squad of marines and prevent the virus[1] from heading north and reaching the crash site [2]. Anything can happen.

[1]= Little is known about the virus. It seems to be a collective group of different species (possibly who have been over run or "consumed") who only have one moral goal, to consume all life. The Virus does not work individually, but rather every virus member works towards the advancement of the Virus race itself. There seems to be a hireachy among the virus infectees. The origin of the term "virus" used to describe this race comes from <CLASSIFIED>.

[2]= An old human ship that failed and was lost in deep space ~50 years ago, at the time of writing this document. It can only be assumed that the virus repaired the ship, and translated the documents on board the ship to find Earth's location. This is not the same ship the player was on at the beginning of the game.

Aaron, I am a slave to low file sizes, but you're hurting yourself with these.

Try to get the BEST quality and around 85-100k.

That doesn't mean I want you to post an ugly grainy 100k picture either. If you can get a top rated screen for 50k use it, but posting nasty pictures like these only ruin your presentation nearly as much as posting some gawd awful over bloated ones.

Go get Xat and adjust the originals. You'll be amazed. AND even you as A 56K USER CAN POST THEM.

The best things in life, aren't things.

Yes. I did notice significant colour loss, blur and an overall lower quality in these pictures compared to the raw bmp images taken directly from the game, blame Microsoft paint for that. What amazes me is how you where able to tell that these where pretty low quality images.

I don't blame paint, just the fools using it. Xat is free. GO GET IT!

I've got the chance to play with Reddawn. I've really liked the game,
especially the gameplay. The architecture needs more detail though, and
some maps aren't really well connected with others, but as Aaron said
it before, this mod is really in early beta. Even with these problems,
Reddawn is a great mod, and will only get better.

Good luck with the mod Aaron.

It's going to be really good, it's quite good even now.
