Yup, I actually was a bit surprised the radiant forum made it to the new site. Merging it with HL1 is a splendid idea.
I don't really see the need for a separate introduction forum (with the focus lying on "separate" here). Most forums have a useful introduction sticky thread, no problem with that, but what would be the benefit of having an entire new forum section for it? I don't have a problem with it per se, I'm just not a big fan of having too many forums as long as one isn't overrun with activity and should be split...
Hmmm. Maybe a "save zone" could indeed motivate newcomers to post. We could try it for a few months and see how popular it gets?

Can I just throw in the idea of an archive forum?
I'm thinking only of the General Chat forum tbh, since it has a massive number of posts and it may help the general speed of the database if we could shunt any obsolete threads over to a separate table.
This is a bit different from just making a new forum - I'm talking about 'archiving' older threads by moving where they physically are in the db to speed up the main forums, but what end users would see would be just a separate 'Archive' forum (or whatever you want to call it).
Edit: just had another look at this... it was something on my 'to do... possibly' list from a while back. Probably isn't needed actually, only 100k posts, isn't really too big a deal.
