-English: (My english is too bad)

To add multiplayer menu in Half-life 2 ...

Go to this folder: C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life 2\hl2\resource\

And add the file "GameMenu.res" (The file is in this package).

Go to C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life 2\hl2_*\cfg\
  • Your steam' s language for example "hl2_french" for me

Add the file "settings.scr" (make copy of original file, for backup reasons)

Enjoy, you can create a multiplayer game with Half-Life 2 interface.

-Francais:
Pour ajouter le menu multijoueur dans Half-life 2:

Allez dans le repertoire:
C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life 2\hl2\resource\

Et ajoutez le fichier "GameMenu.res", present dans ce fichier .rar

Et ensuite aller
C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxx\half-life 2\hl2_*\cfg\

By the way i didnt have time to see if anyone said anything about this so dont say anythign about that all i want is pure answers is to why it doesnt work. hint try testing it before you say something.

It's the same as activating any menu options in any steam game. Did you know you can switch games like in the old activation menu? It just isn't placed in the res files. However, I believe HL2 doesn't have proper net code, not to mention maps.

I've found some other MP mods that work, but there's no maps and they used the base.fgd that comes with the sourcesdk.

Youre better off waiting for the full sdk to be released rather than
using this stuff. Its a good effort, but in the end it really isn't worth it.

Im a bit afraid to use stuff like this considering Steam feels the need to validate my game files every 5 seconds, and who knows if it will detect this menu improvement hack as a "cheat" or bad file or whatever.

It's a menu definition for steam ... it's in every single thing steam runs, meaning it isn't a cheat and won't be seen as one, only cheats are seen as cheats (i.e. wall hacks, which usually have to be reported and logged). It's not a hack either, it wouldn't show up at all, those res files are steams equivilant to hammers use of fgd files.

What's with the paranoia?

It?s cool.

The one I downloaded, at filefront I believe, had 2 piece of s**t maps. One was just a 12 ft wall, water, and stacks of cinder blocks, barrels, and armoires. With an HEV suit and Grav Guns (Several of each). I suppose it'll be fun for like 10 minutes. The other map has every weapon in the game (almost), but no HEV suit, so forget switching between weapons.

But, you can easily make maps right now, hell you can port your old maps over to screw around in.

The only thing that made me a bit excited about any HL2DM is the gravity gun. Imagine you and another person running straight towards the same weapon spawn. Pop out your grav gun and guess who'd win.
You can also launch crap you pick up at each other to slow them down. That one weapon adds a new style of game play.

Now if someone could spawn a phys-gun ... oh man. Fun city.
