This isn't in the mapping section because the mapping part of it isn't
what I'm asking about. I've spent some time over the past couple of
days designing a dedicated Combine railtrack, as throughout HL2 (even
in the Citadel!) they always use human tracks with wooden sleepers and
the problem I've run into is with texturing the supports.

I'm happy with the track texturing, and I'm happy with the supports in
themselves too, but the contrast between them is jarring. I need to
soften the gap but I can't think of a way of doing it that is in
keeping with Combine style (AFAIK the usual fix of having a mid-tone
plate between the support and track isn't suitable here).

Can anyone suggest what I should do?

I don't get it. Do you want to make a custom texutre, do you want one of us to suggest a texture?

I don't know, that's the problem! I'm just looking for ideas to what might suit the design best.

I've worked out a solution, but I'd still like to see yours.

I'd only make 1 support pole, not 2...

Too metrorail. And it would also mean I missed out on an opportunity to have some asymmetry.
