Well since I was working on a map for a HL mod called "The Battle
Grounds" I figured I'd see how this map forum goes. Firgured I'd
want to at least try it out before I get into some HL2 maps hardcore
and am all confuzzed.
Anyways, here it is. The layout, and brushwork is all basically
done. The only real "mapping" left to do is to fix 2 RAD errors,
both of which are noticeable in the screens I will post in a sec. The
only thing else is to fix the cliffs. When I made the terrain
for the map its basically just triangle terrain made with only 45-45-90
triangles, and then cliffs that extend to the sky, and then a sky brush
that connects that to the sky plane. I had finished "bumping" the
grass part, but I haven't yet done the cliff parts yet, so they are all
one hieght and boring. Oh yeah, and the boat will be a good
looking boat, I just threw something together for testing purposes for
my entity system (the boat sinks)
I've added all the detail textures, and the only thing after that is
adding particles (which will take a long time
D: ) The grass particles you see in the pictures are just he
generic grass, which will all be changed to something less ugly
looking. And there will be floating fog based particles along
with the env_fog. I did the torch fire for the torches in the
tunnels and I did the smoke from the chimneys already.
To get something to work, sometimes you just have to beat your head against the wall longer; the skin grows back, but the brick doesn't.

This is the brief story I thought of to make the map about. It
didn't come out really like this at all, but here it is so far:
British intelligence learns that the Americans are
using an old pub in the town of Fale as a base of operations for one of
their resistance groups. Early one morning British naval officer
decide to attack this American resistance meeting house in an attempt
to weaken the resistance. Ground troops meet up with naval
assualt troops and begin the assault through the open fields, to make
the attack. The Brisith must try to overrun the Americans in the
town or destroy the meeting house.
American intelligence learns of the attack early,
and prepares a counterattack. The American troops leave to
attack the British before they get a chance to prepare. The
Americans must try to overrun the British or destroy the Brisith supply
boat.
To get something to work, sometimes you just have to beat your head against the wall longer; the skin grows back, but the brick doesn't.

Map is and released! To get the full effect you will probably
have to download the new (currently beta) version of bg. I think
it came out okay for my last hl map. Also since its probably the
last HL map anyones going to be releasing for a while I think a small
news post on the front page would be in order
