So, I want to talk about the addition of a separate 'Introduction' Forum for users new to the site to come in and introduce themselves and talk about what they're doing or want to do. Make it easy for them to meet the active members and talk about whatever they show a concern for. It would be listed under the General Forums' list as separate from 'General Banter' and 'Art' forums. -Any crits or suggestions?

-The other thing: We still have a Radiant Editor forum that has not been used in almost 2 years. I don't think we even have any current Radiant mappers amongst us (if you are here, please speak up!) I used it a long time ago before discovering Goldsource and never looked back. Larchy has proposed this to me before and now I wanted to catch everyone's opinion before attempting it, but with the new tools available to admins, we can merge every thread in that forum into the Half-Life forum. We could even denote (when users are searching through it) which article is actually a Radiant Editor thread and not an actual Half-Life Editor thread. [READ]: We're not getting rid of it, we're simply merging it with the Half-Life forum. All the threads will be organized based on post date, so they will be interspersed amongst the HL threads but with [RADIANT] tags attached to their titles.

-What do you guys think?

I agree to both the addition of an introductory board and the merging of the Radiant and Half-Life editing board.

Yup, I actually was a bit surprised the radiant forum made it to the new site. Merging it with HL1 is a splendid idea.

I don't really see the need for a separate introduction forum (with the focus lying on "separate" here). Most forums have a useful introduction sticky thread, no problem with that, but what would be the benefit of having an entire new forum section for it? I don't have a problem with it per se, I'm just not a big fan of having too many forums as long as one isn't overrun with activity and should be split...

Hmmm. Maybe a "save zone" could indeed motivate newcomers to post. We could try it for a few months and see how popular it gets?

Can I just throw in the idea of an archive forum?

I'm thinking only of the General Chat forum tbh, since it has a massive number of posts and it may help the general speed of the database if we could shunt any obsolete threads over to a separate table.

This is a bit different from just making a new forum - I'm talking about 'archiving' older threads by moving where they physically are in the db to speed up the main forums, but what end users would see would be just a separate 'Archive' forum (or whatever you want to call it).
Edit: just had another look at this... it was something on my 'to do... possibly' list from a while back. Probably isn't needed actually, only 100k posts, isn't really too big a deal.
