I was walking through a local industrial estate (I dunno what you call them in your respective countries, here's a link to show what I mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_park) at about 6 P.M., when everything was shut.

It was wet, dark and it felt just like I was in a Half-Life map. Ambient_generics (Or should that be env_soundscrapes?) were playing the metal squeaking sound of the locked gates creaking, there was the shell of a burnt car, the wind was howling. It felt like a great idea for a map. Even though I haven't so much as fired up Half-Life, let alone Hammer, in way more than a year, I still go to places which would make the ideal map. B.T.W., the car shell still had it's windows in. There was some trash in the shell which I picked up, I think it was an old car radiator...I tried several times to smash the window, but the bugger just bouced off each time! It was very loud, what with the concrete all around, sounded like gunshots!

I only live in a small hick town but there are three such places in the area!

Edit: This is the location in question:
