Looking at the first screenshot, the snarkpit picture looks horizontally squashed. Remember that most/all crt monitors are 4:3 so I think you should fix that up. If the monitor isn't 4:3 then you should make it so otherwise you just need to adjust the texture or the way the texture is applied.

The curvy bit at the back of the monitor could use a bit more polygons too, needs to be loads more smoother.

The edges of the front face of the monitor don't look natural, maybe it's the way the polygons are shaded or the angle of the screenshot or something.

Also did you physically imprint that power button symbol? Haha, I don't know that seems like a waste of polygons and a pain in the ass to me you should just uv map it on. Plus I doubt it will look good in game.

Aaron is never happy, he nit-picks everything and thinks he is the cats meow.. so don't let him get to you. Even though sometimes he does have valid points, and his heart is normally in the right place.. he wants perfection.

How does the TV vent its heat? Also this is a bit old in style.. I think everyone these days has a flat screen LCD type monitor. But if your doing a retro deal. It would work.. but then again the game already has like 3 styles of monitors.

Is there anything else worth aiming for? ;)

That's just the way the homepage is for every 4:3 monitor.

It's a WIP, i haven't even modeled the back, didn't you notice?

I haven't smoothed anything yet, or chamfered, so it'll look a bit odd.
Also did you physically imprint that power button symbol?
Yup C: (Altho it looks terrible, lowpoly and such)
Haha, I don't know that seems like a waste of polygons and a pain in the ass to me you should just uv map it on.
This isn't for a game, I'm only making it for funzies C:

EDIT: Forgot about you muhnay, my bad.

You get used to it after a month of being friends with him. :>

Almost forgot about that. :/

True, but those monitors are too easy to model, they usually consist of creating a box, extruding the back of it, extruding a stand on the bottom, putting holes in the back for air, and then slapping a texture of a prt-scrn on the front :P
but then again the game already has like 3 styles of monitors.
I'm going to assume you are talking about hl2, in which case read my above poast.
Er, responce.

No dude, it defiantly looks out of proper proportions. The monitor looks like a perfect square, which would explain why it looks horizontally squashed.

Anyways, it's looking better. The physique has greatly improved but you still need more polygons for that back curve.

I was gonna say, maybe if you put some more suggestive material on the screen it might get more feedback :wcc:

other than that it looks good, there's a couple of these exact models I'm sure fermenting in my basement

Aaargh the horror of looking back at my older assets.

Here's a lowpoly 3D crt asset I made, nothing major but better then that at least.

Looks believable but to me a little elongated. Were CRTs really that deep?

If they were and my mind is playing tricks on me, then I'd say you have youserlf one nice looking model there.

Is the monitor face completely flat? I can't tell for the angle, but the texture does give it just enough depth to be believable. It wouldn't look as nice if you're moving around it and it turns out it is actually flat.

These models you've been posting look like they'd be art assets for a game or map. Mind if I ask what you're modeling these for? :hee:

Now that I look at it I do see that I've made the back quite long. And yes, the front panel is one polygon, made to cut down on polygons as much as I could, but I'll probably put in a inset face anyways.

None of my assets I post are made for any game, just things I do in my free time, if anybody wants them just ask and I'll post the source files.

They were if they were made by Dell.

The CRT Flattube has only really ever been employed in televisions ... it was too expensive for Monitors and LCD were already much cheaper. Not to mention it requires a crap load more hardware to format the image. I'm currently dealing with a digital flat tube TV that has a funked out picture because of some blown ICs and resistors.

I could get the manual to fix it ... but ... I'd really be risking killing myself if I don't properly short and ground the tube.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Now that I read Chrono's post I sort of get what you were aiming at if it was, in which case, yes, the glass surface is perfectly flat. Every single CRT monitor I've owned has been a 'flatscreen' so to say.

And none of them have been Dell.
