The first and mostly second game in the Thief franchise (Dark Project and The Metal Age) have a lot of custom-made levels, also called "Fan Missions" made by the community, including myself.

However many of these were hosted on sites that no longer exist. To this day I still see many websites hosting Thief levels come and go. This makes it harder than ever to find them. It would be nice to have (almost) all levels available in one place, so I immediately thought of the Snarkpit.

However I'm well aware that most of the pit is centered around Half-Life games and the like, so I'm not sure if this is something we would want.

That being said, I don't see why the Snarkpit shouldn't expand to a wider audience, especially in the age where Discord and Reddit are taking over most online forums.

I'm open to hearing what anyone thinks of this and if this gets the green light, I would totally be up to the task of getting this sorted! I believe I still have a .zip file somewhere that was made by a community member on the ttlg forums (the place to go for anything Thief related) containing the majority of these levels.

Off topic: Hope everyone is doing well! It's been many years since I posted anything here and I'm really glad the website is online once again! (Thanks guys!)

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm specifically asking if we can get the classic Thief games as a category in the Maps section on this website

Hey Nib! Great question. I personally don't see an issue with creating a kind of repository of Thief levels on the Pit. Though, I imagine If we dump a bunch of new-to-the-Pit maps, we'll see the recent maps list populate with nothing but Thief levels. Not the worst, since all "recent" maps are at least 6 years old.

Is the Pit just an archive of Valve-related games? No. It really hasn't been; hosting maps for Valve games has traditionally been the purpose of the site since its inception, but we have other non-valve games listed here, so there's room to grow.

Do you have the original author's names for each map by any chance?

Thanks for your insight and good point about the recent maps. There will be a lot that's true... I don't mean to take over the recent maps section lol. Perhaps if we can get someone (or myself) to upload one or two maps for a different game after I uploaded all these thief maps, it won't look like we're only focusing on one game now

I have an Excel file that I made of almost all levels made for the games by the community, and a column with the author but it's only about 50% complete because it's a long and tedious task to go over all the levels to find out who made them. So far I tried to get the information from various websites and used Vlookup to fill in the Author field where possible. Perhaps I should have an AI tool help me with this process now that I think of it, although that's not always 100% reliable either.
