Well I have been puting this off since my upgrade, and finally this morning, I started the ardous task of re-installing my half life world. I started at 7:00am by first:

1. Installing HL and all subsequent mods on my computer from the purchased disks.

2. simultaneously downloading current steam full client cache

3. installing steam

4. copying all custom files from back up disks to folders (many of which I had to create again), such as maps, models sprites, etc, within the steam folders.

5. trying to figure out why the new steam would'nt recognize my joystick, then manually entering JS buttons in config.

6. searching for miscellaneous custom files here and there until most things worked.

7. tried to start up counterstrike, TF 1.5(or whatever the latest is) OP4, Blue shift, none of which worked , even though I had them already installed from the disk

It is now 10:00am and I have to go to work.

sheesh, does anybody even think valve knows what a gigantic pain in the ass their super STEAM powered crap is?

Well. Installing Steam for me took a grand total of five minutes, but then again I had already patched HL all the way to the most recent non-steam version and didn't bother carting over custom crap like old beta maps and all those custom DM levels I never can play anymore.

And why in hell are you using a joystick? This isn't a flight sim

Taking that they don't use your previously installed stuff ... no. lol

By the way Blue-Shift doesn't work under steam, if you want to play it you have to have it installed seperatly. Although, something you can do is copy out the pak files for the high def pack and place those in the steam directories

But other then that, you have to download thier formatted gcf files, sorry. But once you do everything becomes rather smooth.

I have always used a joystick, and prefer it to keyboard playing. It's just the way I was introduced to gaming and I sort of adapted to it. I am becoming better with keyboard playing thanks to almost nobody else in the world including joystick support in their games though.

I use the hatswitch to -use items, reload and switch weapons,

the thumb buttons to duck, jump and long jump and secondary fire, run and turn with the axis(of course), and use the trackball to strafe left and right and to look with my right hand.

I am starting to believe I am in a minority though.
