I just decided to work on a new map after not having opened Hammer in a few weeks. I open it up. I started mapping out an outline for the actual map. Then, I wanted to basically make a parallelogram out of this cube. I select it, click the white button thing on the side real quick to change the modes, but it won't change. I tried tapping it like 50 times - nothing. It isn't the mouse having that double-click timing set really quickly or anything, I already checked. I looked through the Hotkey area of the Hammer manual and couldn't find one to change the modes.
Any help? (Hammer Version 3.5B)

I think I understand what you are trying to do... You don't need to click any white thing to change the manipulation mode, you just select the brush, then click within the outline of the brush (where you would click and hold if you wanted to move it). The white squares will move from the corners of the brush to the centres of the sides, allowing you to deform. Click again, and it will let you rotate, once more and you are back to normal resize mode.

If you want to skew it:
Click, as you tried apparently.
It seems for skewing there is no other way besides clicking twice on the brush :\
If you want the transformation window hit ctrl+m, but that only has: rotate, move, and scale.
There might be something wrong with the Hammer exe. Try renaming the exe and replacing the hammer 3.4 exe and see if it works.
