I made a dedicated Counter-Strike server on my computer, and added it to my favourites. I was bored so I was clicking refresh a lot, seeing what my pings were. It was between 0 and 20 most of the time, except about 1 in every 10 times I refreshed, I would get -1 ping.

I found this pretty funny, but I guess it's just the server thing mis-estimating the ping?

Latencey has a unit of milli (thousanths) of a second I thought. So 20 would be 20x10^-3 seconds = 0.02 seconds, and -1 would be -0.01 which is weird!

Its actually part of an evil conspiracy by all game manufacturers to subtract a constant value from the ping so that pings always look better than they are.

Hehehehe, quite probably.

Or perhaps my computer is a time machine which gets packets from itself one millisecond before it sends them!
