seeing as to the fact i have a very good idea for a themed mod for half-life 2 i was wondering if some of the more talented mappers would be interested.

as i see it maps could be made falling under a themed idea and only one thing changed per map. so the coding would pertain to the map.

one new weapon. one new vechicle. ect....

this "mod" would be listed under a general heading for the main mod and all the themed mods would show up in a server list.

thats it.

as to its simplicity....well who dont like to try new things out. this not only gives mappers freedom to create what they desire but coders to develop new ideas.

not only am i sure this could work but it would be fun.

just one new thing added to the arsenal of half-life 2 as not to devaite too much from the standard so as to be picked up fast by players.

so if you are good at making themed maps give me a buzz at shayne@ptd.net

just the idea of making new things all the time is quite kewl to me. and new maps could easlily be added to a existing theme.

a very simplistic idea that shouldnt be overlooked.

counterstrike? too simplistic...haha.

half-life 2 Online i wanna call it.

If I understand what you're saying, you just want to make a whole bunch of standard HL2 maps, only with one unique coding trick thingy in each map?

Sorry, but I don't really see the point... Just adding a weapon to a map may be a little neat, since you could customize the weapon to suit the needs of the map, but I just don't really see this taking off too much.

I mean, Oz Deathmatch would have been total crap if you could only adjust one weapon per game.

If you really want to go through with something like this, I'd say create some sort of front-end that interfaces with Server creation (if this is directly possible, that would be best, but if not you could fake it by simply make a little executable file that opens a front end for some text files to save options, then load up the server using those configs) and allow the players to simply "add in" all the things that they want to have, then only list maps that are compatable for those various specs (would be relatively easy to simply list maps that only have certain entity information in them). This would still allow people to customize the experience, but it would also let people combine the themes. I believe that may help out with this thing, if it ever takes off.

Or, you could just wait until HL2 comes out. Mabye that would work best.

I think he means something more like spirit of HL. The mod would have various coders, modellers, and mappers, and if a mapper came up with a cool idea for a map with features that weren't available in standard HL2, then the coders and modellers would help bring these features to life. So something like Gollum's Apotheosis - features put into the game specifically for a map.

I agree with Monqui on this one, there doesn't really seem to be a point to it. Or maybe I'm just missing it. The idea seems extremely vague still at this point.

its just add a unique feature to each themed map.

for example in black i want to be able to see through walls. kinda like...wireframe mode for devleoping with the quass and the ability to shoot through the wall with it.

and yes for half-life 2.

and the server interface lists each "mod/map" under the main heading of half-life 2 online mod.

something new all the time. but strictly for each map.

very themed.

to me i try out new mods all the time. they do get old quick. but they are fun for a bit. or i dont want to learn it.

with this its very very simple. they work or dont and we dont have to worry about it as there is always something new to create.

simple.

Ah yes, thanks to ReNo, I see what you're driving at. This'd be a great feature to implement in not only HL2 standard, but with as many mods as possible. I'm looking forward to seeing current games like NS played with full physics (mmm... interactive booby-traps).

Keep in mind that the physics in multiplayer Half-life 2 will probably
be the same as breakables in Half-Life 1, once they're used, they're
used. There's only so many times you shoot the legs from beneath some
big tower causing it to fall on a guy standing below you. And that's
once.

It'll be great for CS, thanks to its round-based format. The physics objects, as are currently, can simply be reset every 3 minutes or so (or at the end of a round).

ive had offers to help in developing this mod.

http://www.bluewolf72.com/

he said he would host me and offer models and public relation support.

all that would be reguired is for mappers to submit maps. they could have an idea in store for them or an idea could be made up.

so based around possiable new item.

thats it....be it a new player model or code or vehicle.

not to mention access to what seems to decent texture artists.

well thats it. this is a mapping site and i just wanted to mention this.

some of you mappers here are very very good.

thanks
