Hello all.
I have made a map and am having some probs.
When I load the map it is in, I get good fps and it is all
sweet. But when I make the main ground texture bumpy with small hills and dips using
the displacement tool and load the map I get around 10-15fps. Very very laggy.
This happens only when ever I make displacements, can anyone
help at all?
Thanks in advance

How many are you using? Simplest thing would be to use less or lower their resolution.

You didn't use a really high power did you?
And i assume that when you said there were no leaks you know that a displacement cant seal a map (or at least im pretty sure it cant)
Gd luck

Yeah, displacements don't block visibility...you have to have an additional brush behind it.

Well the max size that hammer will let you create is a power 4 disp
surface, which really aint nothin. Just for kicks I tried
stringing a square of 16 of these together so it'd be like a 28 size
disp surface. Well that crashed out for some unkown reason (cant
remember what the compile said), but with 8 strung together it worked
fine and even with lots of hills n stuff it still ran at 150 fps, with
the terrain being the only thing rendered. The only way i see
possilbe for such a dramatic drop is a leak.

Displacements don't block VIS, as already stated. Chances are that your problem is actually occuring because you have a leak in your map- so VIS isn't running on it- which can probably be solved by placing a brush underneath your dismapped ground and plugging it!
