someone help please (hl2 crash)

okay, i started making a map called "nwo_nwohq" (not a mod, YET! running on hl2 sp) and last night when i went to test the first room of it out since it is full of phybox's it compiled and ran fine. now tonight when i go to test out the SAME ROOM WITH NO CHANGES, DIDNT EVEN START HAMMER the main hl2 menu starts up, then the computer beeps once and it is frozen. i can move cursor, but alt-ctrl-delete, tab, and alt-tab dont work to quit out. i tried waiting, for an hour and nothing loaded. so i went back and started hl2 again, except this time i loaded map with "map nwo_nwohq" in the dev consol and i get the same results. My game has done this before as well but never where it worked correctly 24 hours before. I am running an Athelon AMD 2k (the kind hl2 hates), a geforce graphics card (the kind hl2 hates), and hl2 runs fine for me normally. on the cs:s Stress Test i ran at 79.9 fps and have windows XP: profesional. btw, someone explain how hammer can be SO BUGGY!?!?! it is a workout in computer skills just to get a succesful launch, edit, compile, test!



**EDIT** I run hl2 with hammer running, and have succesfully played hl2 on multiple occasions including one 14 hour period without error, added this after looking at "hammer gone to poop" thread **EDIT**

Maybe the first time was a fluke, perhapse you have a leak, because Ive
never heard of HL frezing up unless the map was f***'d up.

Can you load a normal map in HL2? Because maybe you acidentlily F***'d
up your copy on HL2. If thats the case just re-install HL2, but make
sure you save your work somewhere else.

The reason why hammer is so buggy is because it just came out, give it a year before it gets to be stable as Hammer 3.4 for HL1

yes, i can run normal hl2 fine, with hammer running on desktop also

Hmmmm recompile, and rum HL2 without hammer running, hammer takes up too many resources to be running something else.

Hmmm so hammer gave you this? or did hammer give you this when you loaded the map?

If you have a kick ass internet (DSL) then I would suggest re-downloading it, or tey the new reset options in the SDK.

no, this is outside of hammer, in hl2 game, hammer not running

When I said re-download I meant the sdk, not HL2 the game thats way too
massive to re download (unles you want to wait 2 days), take your error
message and go to www.steampowered.com and post it in the correct
forum, and hopefuly someone over there will be able to help you out,
because what your getting is something I dont know crap about, sorry I
couldnt be of anymore help.

Okay first off YOU WILL WAIT APOX 2 days to download it again.... I still think you should plead your case at steampowered

How did You get the game?

1) Retail: pop in the CD/DVD and re-install

2) Downloaded (like me :biggrin: ): Right click on HL2 in "my games" go to
properties, from there go to delete local game content. Do the same foe
Counter-Strike Source. Then restart steam. Then in "my games" right
click on the faded HL2 and click install. Then sit back for the next
2-3 days (just a rough guess) and let it download.

thanks its happenin now with ANY MAP I RUN, so ill grovel at my knees and plead to steampowered. just a question, will deleting the content delete any of my custom maps? cuz, you know.... :rolleyes:
