I read the vtex tut but vtex doesn't seem to output my material. I get this:

input file: C:/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/1337tramp/counter-strike source/cstrike/mat

erials/customtex/rock076

Problem figuring out outputdir for C:/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/1337tramp/counter-st

rike source/cstrike/materials/customtex/rock076

Hit a key to continue

Is the oupput directory wrong?

Vtex works with two directories,
"materials<folder>/<file>.vtx" and
"materialsrc<folder>/<file>.tga" and it can't creat the
<folder> sub directory automaticly. You'll have to do it yourself
and that's probably why you get this error.

Do you mean the customtex folder?

I've got a folder called customtex, with the 32 bit tga in. it's location is:

C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\username\counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\customtex

Well, you can call the folder anything. Just make sure you have a custom folder with the same name in both .../materials/ and .../materialsrc/.

Materialsrc is short for "Material Sources". You should keep all your .tga files in "materialsrc/customtex" directory instead. The "/materials/customtex" directory is where VTex will put your .vtf files.

... which, to summarise, means no the output directory isn't wrong but the input directory is- your source files MUST be in a materialsrc/ subdirectory (i.e. materialsrc\customtex)

hay, im new at this whole thing and i
have no idea what i am doing so i was wondering if any one could help
me. i used GCF scape and VTF Explorer to get a .tgatof
the skins of my players. now all i think i need to do is get them back
to a .VTF to put them back to were i got them and have the skins of my
players change, but im not sure. when i try converting the .tga to a
.vtf using the vtf.exe i found in the bin it says "Can't load C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(username)\sourcesdk\bin\filesystem_steam.dll. Can't load C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(username)\sourcesdk\bin\filesystem_steam.dll.

Hit a key to continue"

so all i want to know is how to get my tga's to vtf's or if i even have to or not.

or if i am totaly doing this rong, could i send the tga's and you could
send them back as vtf's or give me other things i could do

thx alot for all your help
