Never thought the day would come! The new site for the HL2 mod the Omega Project is now up! It also has a forum (please sign-up!) and shoutbox. Tell me what you think.

In Kornflakes' very own words:

m00.

Loco, I still really really don't agree with the black background, I think it makes sites look amateur.

Oh...er...

Is this site for a mod?! It looks very plain to be very honest, I think it needs some form of boarder or something to create interest. As I was taught by my art coordinator on my course- It's very hard to use just text to make something interesting, easier to use pictures and text, or even just pictures...

Fair points. I'll change the design today. The only reason I'm using just text at the moment is that I have no ftp access, and so I can only use blogger to get updates. It'll all be sorted soon. Trust me.

Updated. Hope this is better. Agreed that the old one was appauling. Sorry for using a black background, but Warhammer and all that isn't exactly themed around bright happy colours is it?

3 posts in a row! Popular topic! Just to say that there is now a competition to design a website banner for http://omegaproject.blogspot.com

We really need a banner. No prizes apart from seeing your artwork there and your name being shoved up on the site.

P.S. How do you delete posts?
P.P.S. V- points downwards Sorry Lep! -V

There's a thing called 'edit' which makes a post deleting function redundant 99% of the time?

Thanks Lep.

Despite my inane ability to kill topics off by accident, any idea which forums are better? Invision Power Board, or SparkLit Boards?
http://www.invisionboard.com
http://www.sparklit.com

Also, do you reckon my site is getting a bit cluttered?

Be 1337 and make your own.

I've been working on a ghetto stylee PHP one right now. Its coming along really really poorly, so I'm not sure why I'm telling people about it. I like to feel shamed, I guess. shrug

I concentrate my (vague) computing skills on mapping, as I don't really have time for php, and I can't seem to set it up anyway. As a result I tend to go for the quick-and-easy method of finding freebie ones. Boring, cheap, and covered with adverts, as well as being generic, but it gets the job done.

Had a look at the forums on HLAtlas (I presume they were the ones which you were refering to) which were great! Good job!

I made a forum and it was totally complete except for a PM system which I deliberately didn't include because at the time I was against PMs, and I didn't get round to making my own version of bbcode, it just seemed like it would take too long.

TBH it looks more like a poor ripoff of the Onion or Something Awfull rather than an HL2 mod page...

It needs graphics, it's screaming for them!

This is a major problem. Wait 'til this weekend. Then I can really start fiddling. It's becuase it's based on blogger (so news can easily be posted) and there is no ftp space there. I don't have ftp access until the weekend. Just wait a little longer...

Heh- actually, no, we just stole those from somewhere. But I really don't like using code that I don't write/completely understand, so I just started making my own. The front-end is pretty similar to those though.

Those are, I believe, from phorum.org .

This is the problem: I'm such a newbie webmaster (sorry, did I just tag "master" onto the end of web...?) that I am incabable of settign up the damned things myself. Remotely hosted ones only is the cheap, ad-covered, ugly way forward!

I see you're hosted by hlgaming.com. I've contacted them twice about hosting, and on both occasions they said fine. I submitted the request for the url, and after that... zilch. Zero. Nothing. I haven't had a response on both occasions. I've given up. Did you have this problem?

We need new forums of some sort... our current ones are ghetto... anyway, if we do get hosted and change our forum, I could intergrate my news script with the forums (kind of like Snarkpit, actually)

Sounds like a good idea. gimpinthesink very kindly contacted the guy at hlgaming.com, so we should be able to get something sorted out during the holidays.

Just a quick updtae. The site has expanded massively. We now rate at the lowest at 30th in the modDB top 100 sites. We also have a poll system, a commenting system, and a little thing where you can sign up and you are e-mailled each time theres a news update. Thoughts?

Thought I'd already explained this, but what the hey I'll try again. I'm using a blogspot site because it won't upload to the normal site (I need to sort-out hosting at some stage). As a result the best use of free time for me to expand the site quickly, as free time is almost non-existant for me at the moment, is to search for free blogging tools etc. One day I'll fix it all up and change the site completely, porbably over Christmas. Happy?

Umm, does this putative mod. have any concept, let alone content? Or is there just a blog involuntary twitch at the moment?

Not that I have anything against blogs involuntary spasm as such, I was just wondering if I'd missed the content

It's been in the works for about a year. Recently, it's been kind of idling, cause we thought HL2 was about to come out, but now that it's not...

Anyway, this is not an involuntary twitch.

Lets hope the mods better than the website. But one question, how can you make a mod for a game with no clear release date?

Question: how can you make a mod for a game with no clear release date?
Answer: Don't. This may seem confusing, but with the current HL2 release date projected as December 2004, we're aiming to produce an HL1 mod, and then when HL2 does come out we'll do a sequel for that. The mod site should be sorted for Christmas. Theres a little more info at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/godmetal but the images on the site are mucked up so we don't use it for the main one anymore. Not much more info though. A lot of this revolves around finding modellers.
