Hi there

Here is a little history:

I have a problem with some decals/overlays in a map i'm working on... I
know how to make them, thanks to the tutorials out there. But it's
funny that i put an overlay in a wall, compile the map, see it in
game... and days after some more modifications in the map, the overlay
says 'hey! i'm bored, i'm out of here' (irony), so it's gone, but in
hammer the entity is still there with all its parameters, but no
overlay-texture neither editor nor in-game. And i'm stupid enough to
know that i didn't touch a thing about that overlay.

?huh?

it happens sometimes for me as well, its not a big deal, just change the material back to whatever you want it.

When you change a brush (move it, change its size, use vertex manipulation, etc) which has a decal/overlay on it, like you have found the decal/overlay sometimes is no longer mapped onto the brush in Hammer or in-game.

If you select the brush on which the decal/overlay resides and move the brush slightly to another position then back again to its original position the decal/overlay is usually mapped back onto the brush ok.

Alternatively select the decal/overlay itself and move it slighty to one side then back to its original position.

Using one of these two methods always solves the problem for me anyway.

Hi there.

You are right keved, about when you change the brush with vertex
manipulation or clipping, the overlay it's gone, but not (for me) when
you resize or move... i made a few tests and the overlays remained
there, even resizing/moving to the point of cutting the overlay itself.

But i tried your possible solutions about the main problem and did not
work here. But it's logical and may work in some circunstances (it
worked for you), but i found that inside the overlay properties, there
is the 'brush faces' option, and if you click on 'pick' and click on
the face which the overlay was, voila! the overlay appears again. It
may sound logical, but yesterday i was trying this same thing (pick
face) with the old overlay i had problems with, and it didn't work. But
now it works after deleting and creating a new overlay.

I'm sorry if all this sounds confusing, or stupid. But i like to know all the details of every problem i encounter =)

Thanks for answering, i consider all this problem fixed.
