Has anyone else seen the Extras yet? It's Ricky Gervais' new sitcom, follow-up to the Office, and features a man who's doomed to a life of being a line-less extra in films and being surrounded by more successful (yet incompetent) stars.

Unfortunately I missed it tonight (too busy messing around with JavaScript in order to get some funky 3-column article pages working... argh, since I heard it was quite offensive too) but the first two episodes were quite funny- there's in-jokes ("Haven't you even been in the Bill yet? Casualty?"), celebs taking the piss out of themselves (Ross Kemp saying he was in the SAS- "Super Army Soldiers"- and probably the funniest performance so far) and the usual really cringeworthy situations (usually where the main character tries to get himself into a conversation with a producer). I hope it doesn't do a Simpsons with the celebrity-saturation, but as long as they're all self-deprecating in it they should be fine...

This will probably be 1 one off series of something, seeing as it
basically revolves around the whole celebratory a episode thing. Saw
1st one and tonites one. Its got a really weird vibe to it, it feels
like the office, but its different at the same time, some of the
dialogue is soooo casual, like they are really just having a chat
backstage. There is some really funny stuff in it, pity I missed the
Ross Kemp one :/
Hello there.

I only caught tonight's episode, and I was impressed. The cringeworthy
situation comment was right on the ball - some of the best scenes were
simply about the awkwardness. I don't watch much TV and have only seen
a couple of episodes of The Office, and from watching Ricky Gervais
live I've never been all that impressed, but this was enjoyable and
I'll certainly try and tune in come future episodes

Ricky Gervais said in a BBC R2 interview (the day before the 1st episode aired on TV) that he wanted to make a movie, but that he couldn't be arsed to he made a series of shows that have movie stars in them. He said people don't care about programs unless theres someone famous because they could just watch any other crap instead, thats why he has celebs
