camera baby!

WOOT! Got me a 20D! YESSSS. I'm excited. I bought a used one on ebay for 940. Pretty good deal actually. Now I just need to find a lens. Got my eyes set on more than a couple. Mainly a nice canon 28-135 EF IS, canon 75-300 IS, sigma 50mm 1:1 Macro lens, a 90mm Tamron 1:1 macro i saw at the store, or a nice 180mm 1:1 macro. Ooooo can't wait till it gets here. Borrowing a tamron 28-80 or something lens from my uncle untill I decide on one.

Yeah, I figured maybe not everyone is obsessed with recording photons. But I sure am. And I think anyone can relate to buying something that is very expensive which you want very badly. Just think of something that costs around a thousand dollars that you want like nothing else.. and then getting it.

my mom used to have one with a telescopic lense and all kinds of filtures was pretty sweet

Very nice mate, thats one hell of a digicam. I've got a Fujufilm S5500, which is a fairly cheap camera, but I bought it primarily on its review on that website. Pity I never use the damn thing - I really need to get out and about with it more.

Congrats on getting what you desire! Have you been playing with it a lot recently?

I have a pretty decent digital camera. Sony Cybershot DSC-P150. I got it for Christmas more than a year ago and I've really only used it extensively twice; in Puerto Rico and now here in London, but it's really growing on me. I was really really excited when I got it but then I didn't really use it much, but now that I'm using it a lot here in London I'm realizing just how much I like taking photos. I'll post my favorites from the trip in my London thread. Belagarion let me know what you think!

well no, mostly because the guy still has to ship it to me. When I go borrow my uncles tamron lens i'm going to be taking his D60 at the same time, untill he gets back from his vacation. But when my 20D gets here, you can be sure I'm going to spend some quality time with it for a couple of days. I want to get really aquainted with it, all it's little quirkes and responses so I can take some good photos without worrying at weddings and such. I'm probably going to work with my uncle doing candid wedding reception photos. And also trying to get a prof from last year to bring me on board with his sports photography gigs.

That's a pretty nice camera you have for it's class. DPR had some nice things to say about it. I can see why you chose it. Considering the type of camera, it makes some really nice pictures. Can't wait to see your photos. I love looking at other people's maps, and photos are no exception. Good photography is good photography, and being able to see pictures from places I've never been to is really fun when you've not got something else you need to do.

btw, take more photos! It's a great passtime, especially with the ease and practicality of digital these days.

Nice camera! I've got the generation above Reno's - the s5600 (which is pretty much the same, except it's got slightly improved specs. Incidentally, the s5600 is known as the s5200 in some places, and the s5500 as the s5000).

I couldn't agree more. Whether or not it was actually the case, the film photography "divide" between professional and amateur seems much bigger than with digital photos.

There's a reason for that (that being the divide between pro/amature in film/digital). Think about it. What's the one HUGE advantage digital has that film never will? Instant feedback. It is SO much easier to really know how your camera works, to fix your mistakes, adjust and tweak your technique, with digital than it is with film.

I've been shooting digital for about 3 years now, 2.5 almost exclusively with my G2 (I took a few shots with a friends Rebel XT.. like <50), and that's all I've shot. Just digital. Since I borrowed my uncles camera (a Canon D60, a digital SLR which is a few generations older than my 20D), it took me a mere two days to get quite well adjusted to the D60, taking more than 200 photos in a few hours. How long (and EXPENSIVE) would that be with film? The reality is that digital is just leaps and bounds more practical than film, and therefore far easier and faster to master than film ever will be.

That's not to say digital doesn't have dissadvantages, and film doesn't have a lot of advantages over digital (film has a lot of advantages actually), but for the common tourist, amature photographer, and the aspiring prosumer, digital simply is the best way to learn how to take pictures.

YES! I now have MY OWN lens.. not using my uncles anymore. Also found out why it's so fuzzy.. apparently some of the glass is separating (the glue is breaking from heating/cooling). Really excited about it. I went to National Camera Exchange today with my father and bought a Canon EF 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 USM. I've had it for all of a few hours and I'm in love. sadly, i found out my 20D really needs a sensor cleaning. I hope it doesn't cost too much. I spent almost 500 today on that lens and two filters... one of which is a circular polarizer. BIG FAT HEART.
