Hey guys, any of you particularly "in the know" when it comes to TVs? My current one is sorta on its last legs so I've decided to go the whole hog and get a really good replacement to last me a while. Its kinda like a Birthday/Graduation/First Paycheck treat  My requirements...
  • HD ready with at least 720p support
  • Widescreen...which I think is a given if you are going HD
  • 32" or higher
  • VGA or DVI or whatever connectors let me rig it up to my PC
Best I've found seems to be the Hyundai Q321. I was looking at it on Overclockers who had it for ?750, but Novatech just dropped their price on it to ?600, which is significantly lower than the prices everywhere else. They also have a Hyundai A321 for the same price, which isn't listed on the Hyundai website which leads me to think its an older or discontinued model. The A321 comes with HDMI input while the Q321 comes with the (older) DVI input instead (other connections seem to be the same). The Q321 also has integrated Digital and Analogue tuners, while the A321 seems to only have analogue. Here are links to their respective pages on Novatech...

Q321: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?nov-q321&P=1

A321: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?nov-a321&P=1

Any advice on either of these, or suggestions of other models to look at?

Unless your going to get 1080i HD, don't bother, as you'll find you'll want it within the year. 720i/p has been around for yonks- LCD monitors are 720 I think, which I found out on my 360 when I plugged it into that.

What you should do is what I do, use the high street as your walk through catalogue, then buy online. Go try one out, as there is no way of knowing the quality of a TV before hand- stay away from Sony as they are now the worst, overpriced company there is... Go for a panasonic as they make the best HD TV's (if you can afford it).

But saying all this, you need to spend at least ?1000 to get a decent picture on an HDTV at 32". This is not decent in terms of amazing, but actually decent. Alot of these cheap HDTV's are frankly crap. As I said, go to town and find one you like.

I thought 1080i was normally less impressive than 720p due to the interlaced image? Sure, there are more pixels on the screen, but with only half of them getting updated every pass it looks bad for fast moving images. I've yet to actually see them compared so I guess thats something I should check out. The Hyundai I'm looking at features both anyway. Max resolution supported by the 360 is 720p which is, for now, gonna be my main use with the TV.

I'd rather not spend more than about ?700 on the TV to be honest, but on the other hand I don't want to spend ?700 on something that isn't much cop! I'll try and pop in to some shops next weekend or something and take a look see.

I like those DLP TVs over the LCDs. You should look into the DLPs.
