I'm currently looking for help with a project I've undertaken, a single player hl2 mod largely based on the Hearst Castle. Hearst Castle is an enormous luxury palace built by William Randolph Hearst from the 1920s to the 1940s.
The estate is filled with beautiful art and architecture pulled from many different periods and regions. It is located on the central coast of California which is an amazingly beautiful region in itself. The reason why I thought the Hearst castle would be a good setting was because of the quantity of interesting and attractive locations that fit so nicely together.
My Romanpool map,
http://www.snarkpit.net/maps.php?map=2597, that was entered in the 2006 Snarkpit compo is really just a sample of what I hope to be an incredible single player experience.
The end product will be part game and part sight seeing. I'm hoping the quality of scenes that are produced will encourage players to stop and soak in the environment they are playing in. So really the focus is creating interesting game play in jaw dropping landscapes. Detail for detail accuracy from the real location is not necessary nor desired.
As far as timeframe for the project, I am estimating about a year. This is the sort of project that will be detail intensive and will need to be very polished to achieve the desired effect. If anyone has any interest in helping out with textures, props or mapping on the project please post here or stop by our forum:
