Map Description

This is a new DOD map I started on last night and its set within a U-Boat pen on the coast of France. This is the beginning of one of three sub slips inside the pen.

The map is a custom map I have been asked to make for the DOD clan YC-UK (Young Active Hooligans), after they saw and hosted my dod_pegasus_bridge map. I am creating two versions, the clan version with banners, etc; and a public version.

The mission is simple:

ALLIES: Shortly after landing in Normandy the Allied forces are ordered to attack a Nazi sub pen on the Southern side of the Cotentin Peninsula. While arial bombardment has managed to breach part of the pen and destroy a U-Boat, another two are still protected inside the fortification. The Allies are charged with clearing the pen of any Nazi forces and destroying the remaining two U-Boats.

AXIS: With the invasion force dominating the Air and Sea, the German forces inside the pen are unable to launch the subs to safety. They're only option is to dig in and try and repel the Allied ground forces, saving the U-Boats till they are able to make their escape.

Actually I didn't think moh or cod were any good.
So? ... did you think I was trying to convince you??

I loved them. (And by the demo, Pacific Assault looks great)

I'll have to take a run through in game, but knowing your ww2 resum? with DoD this should be freakin' detailed up the ass

By the way, that MoH map rocks (for anyone who hasn't played it)

I've just gotten some new screens up for the map. I have added the sub entrance (essentialy a huge door), and more importantly the cargo loading area at the back of the pen. As the shots show there is a two track rail system running through each sub slip in the pen for the transportation of cargo. This is the are where most of the close quaters fighting will happen, due to the presence of freight carriages and cargo containers/etc. I have yet to put gangways onto the sub to allow players access to plant explosives. Still tweaking but coming along very nicely.

Interesting. I'm quite suprised the weren't all arched. I guess that goes to show you should look at more than one resource before drawing broad conclusions.

Yes the similarities between my map and MoH's U-Boat map are uncanny, particularly due to the fact that like me, they actually researched the topic and found out what they looked like  . I think with this theme its pretty hard to come up with something completely new as well as being completely realistic.

Thanks for the link Tracer, I also found that one during my researching. That pen at Cherbourg is the only one I could find evidence of that looked like that. Due to its curved nature it would be rather hard to make, at least when it comes to R's. Here are some links to pics/pages that I used as references:

I've also got some books here but no scanner.

Obviously I still have a lot of work to do on it. I've only built part of the basic structure with the lighting and a knock up crane to add a bit of detail and give an early impression of the finished product.

How perceptive. Yes the map is modeled on a combination of real photos and the MoH map. The gameplay will probably be something similar to that of the U-boat single player map in MoH.
