Map Description

Justice: A Single-Player Map for Half-Life 2

Version 3 released: August 30, 2005
Length: Approximately an hour long for a first-time player
Difficulty: Kick-ass hard

SCENARIO
Did you find the ending to Half-Life 2 not challenging enough? This map is an addendum to what happened to Gordon after the official Half-Life 2 ended. If you're looking for a more intense conclusion for Half-Life 2, you've come to the right place.

The map takes place a few days after you have blown up the Citadel in City 17. Gordon Freeman regains consciousness after a brutal beating by the combine capturers. You're locked up in a jail, and your murder trial for killing Dr. Breen and his associates is scheduled for the next morning.

The G-Man is presiding as the judge over the trial, and your instinct tells you that you really have no chance at getting a fair trial. Judging from the appearance of your cellmate, you better get out when you still have a chance.

You must escape the courthouse before night falls. You've got nothing but your wit to successfully survive the squads of combines guarding the courthouse. Fight with your brain, not just with your guns.

If you wish, you can watch a video walkthrough of this map, courtesy of Habboi.
Postscript:

There was an earlier version of the map with two antlion guards in the courtyard instead of the gunship. After playtesting with members of the SnarkPit, I decided that having a gunship can take advantage of the layout of the map so much more than the antlion guards. The older version is no longer available for download. I hope you enjoy this new version as much as I enjoyed creating this map.

So I'm supposed to read the walkthrough before playing, because without the walkthrough I'm just commiting suicide?

Yes, that completely makes sense, and I'm sure that it's not an indication of bad level design.

I'm also sure that you are on well on your way to becoming the lead level desiger of Valve with the philosophy of "What? Didn't you read the walkthrough before playing my map? You're an idiot!"

Headx, did you read the walkthrough?

You went on a suicide mission because you didn't use your head to strategize before venturing into the hordes of Combines that you know are waiting for you.

There is a shotgun with plenty of ammo and health inside the prison where you started. But you weren't smart enough to find them.

Oh well, I guess it's survival for the fittest.

This map is... pretty bad. It looks good enough, but the gameplay is just awful. Swarms of combine soldiers, and all I have is a crowbar? Well, I did find a rocket launcher (presumably intended to be used againts the gunship which no longer poses a threat), but that's not really meant againts soldiers in close combat, and it doesn't have enough ammo. It's just too difficult to be any fun. I'm not going to rate it because I didn't really play it for that long.

Sorry, I am improving the gameplay as we speak...

I did not intend it to be that difficult or painful.

Hehe...I still think its funny I had to endure as much pain as I did to beat the mod without a crowbar or grav-gun....F6 became my best friend very quickly in this one..... 8/10

It appears that most test players have a hard time finding the crowbar. So I am changing the gameplay a bit this weekend.

The new version should be available sometimes next week.

So many downloads, but relatively few comments. I am curious whether anyone has found a better way to beat the map than my own walkthrough. If so, can you post it here?

Thanks for your comment, Treb. I know I could've used area_portal to reduce framerates, but it was my first Source map. I was experimenting with Hammer 4 still at the time. I certainly learned a lot more about the engine since this map was published.

I am glad you like the architectural style. I had enough of the original Half-Life 2 "city-grundge" styled maps, so I thought I'd make something entirely different. I am happy that someone noticed.

Very good! The bush work defiantly doesn?t say "amateur" it has a unique style and this is refreshing to see.
Personally I found it much too hard without reading your walk through. (Cause I didn't find the crowbar.)

On a side note i think allot of stuff is unnecessarily rendered and could be solved with the clever use of some area_portals. (Have a look with mat_wireframe 1) This didn?t cause me any issues but it may do with low end users.

Other then that nice work.
