Check your 'bin' folder inside your steam folder. There's an executable called "smp.exe" (description: Steam Media Player).

Anything they didn't tell us about ?

Type "mp3" in your console in CSS or DoDS to bring it up. You can load songs on it and play them in game. Just about everyone in the world knows about this.

Any clues as to how its used? When i try open it it doesn't open. I think that valve might be trying to make steam encompass even more features by using this to play mp3's and other sound files in the background with CSS, HLDM or HL2 whilst using less memory than windows media play and at the same time automatically turning off the music in HL2.

I just read Spartans post, and boy do I now feel like an idiot  .

I don't think it is used for playing in-game mp3's.

from another forum:
Rumour has it, it'll be used in conjunction with the upcoming bit-torrent functionality of steam to distribute the indy zombie movie made by some friends of valves.

obviously the file IS there though, because i can listen to it with WMP or iTunes

The "missing file" may be a steam player file, it needs to play your mp3s, which means either your copy is borked, or it isn't fully implemented yet

The steam media player is working fine and is fully implemented however I get the same error as him. I got it today when I refreshed the song directories.
