Well, you can use any modeling program. The easiest to get stuff into a Source game would be Softimage XSI Mod Program, which you can find through your SDK. For a very simple watered-down program try Blender.

Blender isnt watered down at all, nor is it simple. Actually Blender is probably the hardest to learn of any modeling program, but potentially very powerful.

Mazemaster: It's more that Blenders UI is so different from the
'industry standard' that it's hard to learn for those who have
accustomed into 3ds Max style input. I've read more than one people who
have never before used a 3D modeling software say it's actually quite
easy to learn.

Frenchy: Check this out,
and then come telling me that Blender is simple watered-down program...

Personally I'd say the UI is a bit tricky, but once you get the hang of it it's much more faster to use than, lets say GMax.

Hey, if the download didn't take 38 hours I'd definitely watch it.

I really didn't take the time to do more than scan this thread. The title drew my attention for... personal reasons.

I have however read it fully and I do not like the "feel" of the thread.

You seem.... less than beholding?

If you add up everyones time here since you posted this thread, you took up... about 3 hours of our time...

Blender was the first modeling program I learned to use and I found the UI very easy. Maybe it's because I wasn't already accustomed to other UIs. I've also tried XSI, ZBrush, and 3DSmax and other than ZBrush they do have much different UIs compared to Blender.

yeah. i'm used to Max like style programs. I already tryed working with blender for 3 times and i just cant get used to it. I actualy hate it nowadays. I always wonder why they couldnt make a easy straightforward like interface as seen in 3dstudiomax/G-max 1.2. I mean, how hard can it be?

Not even mentioning the awkward mouse controls of objects and vertexes.

Because it is made easy and straightforward. You've just gotten used to
something else. Trust me, it's faster and things are easier to find
than in GMax. I used Gmax before it and I hated changing tabs just to
change between vertex/face/edge selection and extrude controls(or was
it cutting, can't remember anymore). In Blender all I need to do get
the cutting controls up is to press space and move mouse a bit(or
shift+k for knife cut, ctrl+r for loopcut and you're already doing it).
Extruding is also easy, just tap E once and you're already extruding.
No useless clicks or screwing around with different tabs.

Yeah, your mouse is saved for motions that actually need it like moving verticies or rotating the camera. All the functions and modifiers are done through the keyboard, which although hard at first, is ultimately much better IMO.

Well, i just cant get used to it.

And really, nothing beats the tabbed modifiers, really easy IMHO.

Oh, you can select almost every function through the keyboard. Check the manual and you will see.
