since i cant use the hammer fgd in quark ive been having trouble what are the required things that must be set to get it to work manually added everything but it still doesnt seem to work

(10 days ago, but anyway...)
It doesn't work anymore. The Spirit fog used some OpenGL hacks that don't work with Steam apparently.

Alright is there any hack way to get it aside from sprites
atleast is there any way to get it to look reasonably good

You can try posting on the Spirit forum for some advice, but I doubt there's a solution. After the original programmer left, Spirit kind of splintered into a bunch of different side projects. I think some people are trying to organize and merge all the forks, but there's not much enthusiasm anymore and the HL1 mod community is kind of dead.
I'd say fiddling with the sprite method is your best bet (which tbh, I never liked)

The Sprite method i know how sprites work but how would i make it look good? I was thinking cs style effects but i know that would run really bad
