So far, I have made these weapon changes in my mod (reddawn) for half-life 1. Let me know if you like them or what else I should change.
  • Mp5 grenade taken away, replaced with zoom, bullet range increased to 4500 units (long), bullet accuracy increased to an almost straight line, bullet damage slightly increased from 5 to 8.
  • Shotgun accuracy and range slightly decreased, damage changed from 5 to 22
  • Hand grenade damage changed from 100 to 200, you can now die from one grenade if you have full health and shields
  • Shots to the arms or legs to half the damage they normally would.
  • Rpg's now to twice as much damage, however will not be seen much in multiplayer maps and may possibly remove red dot.
*Satchel damage has increased from 150 to 220

Monsters do slightly more damage and have slightly more health on normal and have more health and do more damage on hard, hard is actrully now hard.

Player sheilds now regenerate at a rate of 1 shield health per second.

Grenades are more usable because of proper grenade physics.

Also, you can generally hold less ammo in weapons, example, only 4 grenades, only 1|3 rpg rockets, only 60 bullets for shotgun instead of 120....

Do we agree and what other changes do you think will be good?

mp5 nade is probably my favourite weapon of all time. there's something trully satisfying about that perfect lob, so removing it is bad. the rest all appear to be giving you lots of increased firepower or survivability, while only giving the monsters a "slight" increase. whether these changes are good or bad will ultimately depend on how you implement them in your maps.

Thanks fishy for the useful answer, well I am expecting seeing as all of you guys are half-life fans and post on a half-life fourm, you are good at the game so you will be playing on at least normal or hard. In general there is more monsters in an encounter than half-life and as you play though you will encounter higher ranked monsters. Foe example an agrunt with red amour has more heath than an agrunt with blue amour. The white agrunt has more health and does more damage than all the agrunts and the hornets are a different colour. I am also hopeing to make the zombies run and hold weapons (like the flood combat forms in halo 1/2/3) and there are 7 zombie skins and 3 head crab skins to mix things up.

Got carried away again.

Doesn't sound too shabby, but i agree with Fish, the mp5 grenade is a great weapon, and you shouldn't remove it, perhaps you could try and create a sniper rifle, because honestly it sounds like you've turned the mp5 into an automatic sniper.

Overall it sounds like the weapon damage is increased a bit too much, especially the shotgun, it sounds like you could take out groups of enemies in a single shot with that thing, I like the idea of ranked enemies, but zombies with weapons seems a bit weird, if they fire them that is, if all they do is run around and smack you in the head with the end of their pistol it's ok.

Come to think of it, zombies blowing themself up with grenades would be entertaining..

Thanks natus, well the zombies would be much like animals, they run around, might run right up to you, look at you for 2 seconds than shoot at you and run and hide where they re group. They are very stupid and yes, can kill the selves with grenades, and with some code already added, they will go flying and get splatted against the wall. But this is a little to advanced for my skills at the moment, when I get the skillz, i will do this.

Yeah this is true, but if you play on normal or hard, this isn't the case. The enemy encounters are also larger. And I have the power to make enemy's spawn in different places and have more enemy's on different difficulty's and have random spawns where there might be one sniper in a different area every time you replay that area or die.
