I have seen this done in other maps, people copy houses and such from half life 2 .vmfs after extracting them from the .gcf. and decompiling.

I would like to use a house from one of the hl2 coast maps. I have the .vmf of that map and my .vmf and I would like to import the house from the hl2 map into my map without remaking my map? Is this possible and how do you do it?

I'll say first that it's bad practice to copy others work. As long as it's only something small and your map doesn't depend on it...

You can open both files at once and copy past or you can highlight all the parts and hit the "create prefab" button. Then after u create the prefab you hit the place prop button and select prefab from the pull down menu.
Reality has become a commodity.

Well, if I'm reading that right, it's as easy as pressing ctrl-c, ctrl-v.

Don't expect much backslapping for copying stuff from other maps, though. It won't save you that much time in the long run either, if you consider the decompiling, etc.

Make your own houses. There's little reason to do a building that everyone already knows from another map. And if you're doing it for another game, then you'll end up having to tweak and adjust the whole brush-monster anyway, zeroing out any speed gains from copying.
