Beta 3 shouldn't have the missing sprite problem:

*****************************************************

Just finished beta 2. This map is for the mod Action Half-Life, and it will have a gallery of mod-related art. It's probably my last HL1 map, so it's sort of a tribute to my favorite mod and community. I will do a HLDM version, too, but afterwards.

Consider the artwork to be more or less 'fill-in' other than in the long middle gallery. I have to convert more art to use, and decide what sets of it will go where.

Give it the usual beating. Layout. Detail. Gameplay. Let me have it ;p I'd also like to know how you think it would play in HLDM or maybe TS. FYI no weapon/item spawns yet, I usually do those in the final beta.

Detail textures are included. They are mostly just for the wall textures. They can be turned on by typing "r_detailtextures 1" in the console. They make the walls etc. look less blurry up close, but seem to have a small performance hit. I am mixed about whether they are worth the bother tbh.

I am including the images here remote-linked. Snarkpit over-compresses them and they look godawful with compression artifacts.

Jinx you suck, and by that I mean I am damn jealous of your mapping talents. I swear I could leave you in a room with tooth picks and tongue depressors and I'd come back and find a model of the Taj Mahal.

Looks pretty cool, I can't really think of anything to say.

The textures are pretty sweet, whether there yours or from Action Half-life I have no idea.

The lighting is quite nice, there isn't much variation in the colour though but I don't really think that is important for this map. The lighting seems pretty balanced as is. You could probably give the lobby area (last screenshot) a more yellowish lighting to help distinguish between the two different areas (main space (first 4 screenshots) and the lobby).

One thing I did notice is that the this whole map is very 'perfect'. There is no sign of wear and tear in the map or any uneveness. I suppose there is nothing wrong with that, alot of maps are 'perfect' and a map being 'perfect' isn't a bad thing, but if the map was mine, I would at least be adding a few decals here and there.

I'm imagining the map with a couple of decals (not to many because that would look bad), and it seems to be filling in this empty space I have in my head. For some reason, it gives the map a bit of extra depth and just seems to look more natural.

But yeah man, looks good. I can't download this thing because I don't have Action Half-life, so all my comments are based of the screenshots.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Yeah, it is a bit 'perfect' I guess. I kind of wanted it to have that 'new car smell', though, like it was a new, upscale place.

Also, I like starting with a beautiful, white, clean, pristine environment and turning it into this:

I think the map includes everything needed- ie you should be able to test it in HLDM.

Yeah, beta 3 is up. Except it doesn't show up in my stupid profile, you have to find it on the front page.

Hey, I tried playing this map in normal Half-life but I am missing fountain.spr :(, just that you said you think you have included everything and it would probably work with normal Half-life :D.

And, where can I find Beta 3?, I think I may have beta 2.

heh, just like me, can't finish anything nowadays...

Can't give much help on the map as i ain't mapped in HL for ages but what i did notice when i ran thru' it was how quiet it was. It definitely needs some ambient sounds - wind near windows, maybe a radio or PA system, vehicle traffic sounds, a light flickering and buzzing, clock ticking etc.

Its quite fun, even managed a few sniper kills in those long halls :)

Keep at it.
