first of all let me address that this problem may be caused by the fact that dod was comverted to orangebox but dod in hammer has not yet!

the problem is i have a map with a light_env which is working fine. but i then put some regular lights in some of my dark rooms and the rooms dont illuminate at all. any models that are in the rooms are lit up as if there is light there (meaning they are brighter on one side and the other is cast by shadow)

even the gun in my hand glows when i walk into that room

but the walls are all still dark.

the flashlight still works the way it should.

so im hoping its just an orangebox transition thing that is causing this. but if not than what could be wrong
the only problem with steam updating things every week is it doesent give the developers an incentive to playtest thier work, so we do it for them

Textures that were meant to be used on models don't light up right when they are used on brushes. Make sure the texture/path name doesn't have "model" or "prop" in it.

What he means is that you are using model textures for your brush-based walls in your dark room. This has nothing to do with textures that emit light or entity based lights. Your brush-based walls are using model textures that you unknowingly applied to them. You need to retexture your walls with regular brush textures. How can you tell the difference?

The only way to tell the difference while browsing for your textures in the texture browser is to look for the words 'prop' or 'model' in the textures name or file path which are listed right below the texture thumbnails. If a texture has either of those words in the name/ file path, then you know you're using a model texture, and you should probably change it to some other texture.

If you change your textures, the walls should light up normally.
