Does anybody know exactly what Direct Draw is? Cause I nailed it down to that being the problem with my video card (I think) cause when I load up Dxdiag, if I go run the Direct Draw test, Dxdiag freezes on me. And I think that is why I cant play games, watch DVD's, use . a . screensaver!, or use VHE.

Have you tried installing newest directX? I'm not sure what you can do if you already have the latest version, because directX doesn't have an uninstall option afaik. Perhaps it will let you install the same version again without uninstalling, which may fix a directX problem.

I've also had DirectX probs recently. It seems that some 3D programs cause problems with other applications as well as your graphics card. My advice: Do what it says on the box, and don't install out of date grahpics applications.

Direct Draw is the old blitting system in the DirectX API, allowing much faster drawing of 2D images to the screen. Now D3D pretty much takes that over for games and such. DirectShow still uses it for displaying videos to the screen.
The best bet to fixing your problem is to install DX9 again if you haven't already. Also reinstalling video drivers might help.
Or if you know when the problems started, use System Restore to go back before that day. Note that any apps installed after that date will be uninstalled but not removed.
