1) take speed inducing drugs at a steady constant speed to coicide with the pc slowing.

2) Try various drivers & see if any make a difference

3) Make sure this is not due to overheating, try putting your omp in a cool place & see if it takes longer to occur

4) spraypaint swear words onto the card & mail it back to nvidia.

5) see if its a microsoft issue as its to do with the mouse.

What type of mouse is it, just curious...

And this is only happenening after you're playing in Steam for a while?

And what exactly do you mean by "Skate?" Do you mean that it slowly lolls toward one side of the screen (or one corner)? Or that it simply starts slowing down?

I know that with my optical, probably once every hour or so (in steam) it freaks out on me, leaving me spinning incredibly fast while either looking at the floor or at the ceiling until I bang the mouse on the desk. But the banging of the mouse normally fixes my problem...

hes the guy that cleans mouses balls.... :heee:

the mouse im using on this one is a *sigh...stock microsoft....its worked fine up til now, but it occurs to me....the warranty is up....*heavy sigh

by skate i mean: during normal mouse movements, it stutters across the screen....1 normaly smooth movement is a stop-start staggered mess....and no, it progressively gets worse, and does this no matter what im doing..but its just started since installing steam the other night....i have plenty of free memory, even tho my pc has alot of progs on it....but it is well maintained...

i thought at first it might be the vid card , but because steam takes alot of resources, ive moved thru troubleshooting memory, alotted space, drivers, sledge hammers, and a host of other variants....***scratching head, scratching ass....

ps....the wearer of the oven mitt? its Frank Zappa jon....

I have a TNT2 with no updated drivers for donkey's years and it works fine. One think that does make me spin around facing the floor or ceiling in game is if my WACOM pen falls on the tablet. Took me a while to figure out was went wrong actually. Maybe you could try changing the mouse sensitivity, and then back again, in case something has made that go dodgy. Also, does your computer in general slow down?

Get offa me, avatar hater...

Old wounds heal slowly...

And what kind of mouse is yours, then? Mines a Kensington 5 butt-on mouser thingy... Never really seen it happen to anyone else, so I don't know if it is due to the opticalness of the mouse or due to the Kensingtonness of the mouse.

Something you might want to check is . . . if it starts and you close Steam, does it continue?

Which version of Windows are you runnin, Brass?

I've noticed that if you start slowin' down on some older Win systems, it's because you've got a pretty heavy system load and the mouse is part of the winexe. . .
in XP (It seems) the control for the mouse is seperate from anything else, so even when the computer doesn't respond the mouse does. If it is doing this in XP try scanning for some infections. I mean if there's nothing really running and everything should be good, but it isn't, it means something isn't usually doing it's job, or is being potentially 'mugged' by a virus of somesort . . . who knows the mouse could be getting 'jumped' every time you goto the start menu . . .

If none of that helps (after you've tried it), then you should also try running with non-essential programs off. (start >> run >> msconfig >> startup tab >> deselect everything, except systray, and explorer if it's there, and no I do NOT mean iexplorer, on is windows one is internet explorer.) If that doesn't help in the least . . . uh . . . come back here. lol

I used to get that. I worked out the problem is not with the mouse (well it is sorta), Steam or anything like that. The problem is your mousepad. Thats right, the MOUSEPAD! Bet you never thought of that! It seems that with optical mice, they tend to do this whenever the sensor is directly over a sharp colour change, eg the edge of a shape. So the best way to fix this, IMO, is to get a mousepad that is just one plain colour.

wil5on . . . Optic Mice aren't meant to be used with pads . . . at all . . . The whole point of a mouse pad is for the track ball to get friction so it moves, instead of sliding around on a smooth surface.

Why don't you try no mouse pad at all, if you're using an optic mouse. If it starts jumping because of wood grain, tape some paper under it. and yes optic mice do change with large color differences.

I hate it when people use mouse pads for optic mice, it makes me want to smash . . . you're making me angry . . . usted no tendr? gusto de m? cuando estoy enojado . . . grr

What, and run the risk of ruining my nice desk? It has happened before with tape... anyway, I prefer the look of "plain blue mouse pad" to "paper taped to desk".

Also, my mouse pad is squishy. I like my squishy mouse pad

. . . . ew . . . .

I think you should try getting a new version Brass . . . you know WinME not having many differences from 98 and all lol. I already explained the mouse thing between the different versions, oh well.

Also, Wil5on I said IF you're having trouble with wood grain try taping a piece of paper under it. . .it was a suggestion, not that I think everyone should start taping paper to their desk, The point was, you don't need a mouse pad if you have an optic mouse, infact the fabric material on the pad could get stuck over the laser and make things worse. And, I doubt that your mouse will jump from wood grain, but it has happened before, and if it does it's usually one small area. Try it before you say no, the no mousepad thing I mean.

Optical mice have no problems with grain, unless it's very coarse. They just don't like reflective surfaces.

Took me two weeks to realize why this was happening on my old glass table. Till then, I was the wierd guy on every server who would slowly start shooting towards the ceiling in the middle of a firefight

doc, its an upgrade, not a format.

sure back up s**t just in case, but s**t man, you have multiple pc's, either chose one fairly empty, or use a file swapping program to put everything from one to another for a while.

i am willing to help, but it most definitely needs to be when i am home, and thats not often.

And about my mouse tweaking on me- It would normally happen why I was trying either trying to stand still, or just after I'd spawned (In CS- during the buy period). It's still incredibly funny because it doesn't stop after I move my mouse a little bit- I literally have to jolt it across the desk to stop.

I laugh, so it's all good.

And I'm not opposed to taping paper to my desk, since this thing is a standard issue desk for all dorm rooms. I think it's made out of plastic or something... Might try lighting it on fire sometime and find out.
