Every summer my PC makes a lot of noise due to the hot temperature.
However, it seems that the computer is blowing the hot temperature inside the computer. When I block the (grate?) with my hand, the fan slowly goes slower and slower.

The moments where the PC makes the most noise is when I play a game, it goes super loud then.

I tried the program called Speedfan, but it does not let me change the fan speeds, like it does on other computers. Picture

Notice how it says "Read Only" at the top. When I scroll up it says the same for every other.... thingy.

Does anyone know a solution for this?

Well, if your fan doesn't have the extra wire like a cpu fan does, you may not be allowed to control the speed. In this case it is simply a fan that runs at a constant speed. It may have run slower, (or sounded like it) when you covered it up with your hand only because there was less air moving through it. The "0 rpm" message tells me it probably doesn't have a controller on it. If that's the case, the only thing I could think of would be to buy a fan that did, and replace the one you have. Also make sure if you did that, you had an extra cpu fan port to plug it into.

[*]Well you certainly don't want the fan blowing air into the computer.
I would turn the fan around so it removes the hot air from inside the case.
It probably gets louder because it's struggling to remove the excess heat, which if it's blowing in it's not doing it's job.
Also add another fan if possible and replace the one you have it's probably worn out.

Well it is not really blowing air inside the computer, but it seems to go slower when I block the grate, although I found out that if I do that for very long it goes fast again a little later.

Today is not as hot as before so the fan is not so noisy now, but if it keeps on going so fast as yesterday the coming days then I will probably buy a new one.

That's good to hear, sometimes they do get installed wrong but if it's blowing out that's fine.
I'd probably replace it anyway if I were you and if possible install another fan.

I have this machine in my garage and I keep the case side off with a fan blowing air over the whole case as it gets really hot and humid sometimes out there. It hasn't failed me yet. :)
Oh, by the way we didn't make it out to Valve in June, but we are going out there in the fall so I will get some pics posted then.

Woah Woah Woah, I dont know if you are tech savvy sgtfly, (I think you are) but im pretty sure you want air FLOW in your case, even if some fans want to blow in your case, but make sure there are other to blow out.

Am I right?

You could, just make sure they on opposite ends of the case from those exhausting air from the case. It's not really necessary though to have one supplying air to the case. All cases are vented (vent ports in the case that supply intake air that gets pulled in from the outside by the exhaust fans. Just be ready to clean your computer out more often, as dust and dirt will build up faster (along with heat) with forcing air into the machine. It's more important to clean your case and fans regularly than to add an intake fan.
Your, cpu, psu and video fans all blow hot air away from their components so you really don't want the other fans in the case trying to blow the hot air in the case already back on them. They will cause the hot air to stay and circulate more in the case leaving heat in the case longer, you really want a one way air flow in such a small space. You are trying to remove heat from the machine as fast as possible.
I've been in the heating air conditioning business forever and I've been building comps since the early 80's, built all my own since I've had them. :)

Heh good to have someone who knows a lot about them then :D

I will clean up the inside of my PC soon, last time I did that was a year ago. Maybe a little longer ago.

Also, does it mean it is normal that I feel the air coming out of my pc when I feel at the back side of my computer?

Yes., it's normal to feel air coming out of your case while running. In fact if you don't that's bad. :)
Number one thing for me is keeping my heatsinks and fans clean, nothing kills a comp faster than heat...well maybe the occasional liquid spill on it would do it faster.

Ok, everything is solved now ;)

I cleaned up the whole inside of my computer, bought a new fan today, a silent one, and it's working perfectly so far. Thanks sgtfly! And the rest as well of course :)

So how often does anyone here actually clean the inside of their computer cases?

I wish I would stick to a regiment of once a month, or at least every other month, but I must admit, I'm very guilty in this regard. I think last time I cleaned mine was in December. I usually find the concern before or after packing and moving.

What about you guys? :poke:

I guess it actually depends on how dusty your house is. Once a month wouldn't even warrant any attention as there would barely be any noticeable amount for me.

However when I lived in Utah with a drafty window and dirt for a yard it was a chore and a half just to keep up. One time I had just put it off for way too long and there were "chunks" of dirt buildup on my gpu (doh! no wonder it didn't live longer than 6 years)

So my general rule of thumb would be: if the doctor can trust a cast on your body parts unwashable for up to 8 weeks at a time, that's the limit for my computer.

I only HAVE to clean it once a year, probably even longer. My PC never gets real dusty :)

Just to be safe guys, check them occasionaly. Every month or couple months, alot of times it's the dust getting stuck in the heat sinks on the cpu ands gpu that will overheat the unit.
It's hard to see it sometimes because the fan looks fine but heastsink is clogged,so the once in a while look really helps.
Glad I could help. :)
