What's the filename, and how do I unpack it?
Sorry if it's a lame question, but I'm fairly new to this.
Thanks.
For Steam it should be ...Steam\steamapps\
usernamehere\half-life.gcf
To unpack you need GfcScape which can be found in the "downloads" section.
1. First you right-click on the little Steam icon on your taskbar, then click "exit"
2. Then bootup GfcScape and open up half-life.gcf.
3. You should get a folder called "valve" in the file browser in GfcScape, click the expand button.
4. Select the "sound" folder, and while your at it I would reccomend grabbing "models" too(you need to select and extract each separately).
5. Right click and click extract, browse to your "valve" directory.
6. After it has extracted all your files go ahead and boot up steam again.
In the end the files should be in the same place as if your "half-life" directory was the "root" file in the .gcf.
For WON it should be something like ...Seirra\half-life\valve\pak0.pak
To unpack you need PakScape, which is in the same place as GfcScape.
1. I imagine the process should be the same as if it was a .gcf, but I can't be for sure seeing as I use Steam and haven't messed with .pak files in forever.
Also, don't worry about asking questions, thats kinda the point of The Snarkpit in the first place. Realy the only things to avoid is demanding answers, or ridiculing other people new to half-life. Besides that you should be fine.
Good luck in your further endeavors, and if I haven't been clear anywhere please tell me and I'll try again.
Now remember kids. Asking questions is a good way to get censored by the government.
