I am, it looks fantastic.

If anything it's Enemy Territory 3 and PC gamers should really support Splash Damage with this title.

It's got a dynamic objective system, an alternative focus (outside of DM), and a pretty cool maneuvering system.

I'd say ... in general, it looks nothing like TF2 outside of the fact that there's team based gameplay. If anything, it's very similar to Enemy Territory.

In TF2 you have the MEDIC, THE SOLDIER, THE SPY, and In Brink The Same Classes just named different things. You set up turrets and mines, just as you do in TF2.. You capture bases and they can go back and forth during the game, humm just like in TF2. There is more, but dont want to bore anyone with my comparison.

Your comparison is overtly broad and could apply to many games.

Because it has similar arch-type classes which have always existed in Enemy Territory and you have somewhat similar abilities which have always existed in Enemy Territory it's ... of course, just like some other game that it's not like at all.

Yes, it has a class system ... not really a new thing. It's not even like it was new in TF2, abilities and all.

Engineer, Medic, Spy, etc, are very OLD class arch-types in team-class games. Next you'll say Quake Wars was too close to TF2 also (even though it came out before it)

You might be able to argue that Team Fortress Classic was one of the first games to introduce class systems ... which would be true ... but they've been around for a very long time and are the backbone of the Enemy Territory games combined with objective based gameplay (NOT in TF2) ... which, you've apparently never played. :\

Oh its not about Arch types, its about the look and feel of the game as well, and how its put together. I watched every video they have on their web site, and it screams TF2 rip off to me. Sorry that offends you so. But thats what I get from looking at what they have given us. Not arguing at all.. I just simply have a different view point.

I'm not offended, it's what you're saying makes it sound like the only class-based game you've ever played is TF2.

I think everyone understands that you think it's like TF2.

Does anyone else have anything to say about the game, or is this just going to be a "Hey look at this game, I think it's a TF2 rip off" thread?

Maybe some actual discussion of the game?
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I dont think anyone else really cares all that much.

Why does it seem your a bit Peeved. Upset. Maybe its the implied tone of your message.. no need to be.. just because I see it as a TF2 rip off does not mean its a bad game or its an insult to you because clearly you like the game, why else would you put this much effort into bashing my opinion of BRINK?

Its my opinion, not a challenge or a cry for debate. Sheesh.

I'm not the one perpetrating the "It's a TF2 rip off" conversation, you are. I've tried to encourage others to join the conversation more than once in the thread ... but you just take personal response priorities for some reason.

The only time you opened the thread for discussion was in the first post where you basically said, I think this game is like TF2, are you going to buy it?

And from there, you've just been on retaliation police duty, so whatever. You obviously don't want any real Brink discussion here you just wanted a platform for you to rant about how think it's too much like TF2 ... and you didn't even use the rant thread, so good job.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I am not ranting you are, and your the one who feels the need to discredit my opinion because it does not mesh with yours. I am not wanting to fight over a stupid ass game I wont be buying.. I gave my opinion of it, and you have continuously tried to pick a fight with me over it. Dude get over yourself already. sheesh.

Yes I stated in the very first post, I find it to be a TF2 clone. I then asked if anyone was going to be getting it.. then the very next post was yours where you explain you would be and then tried to discredit my opinion with yours as if there was no room for both of them.

I then tried to explain why I felt it looked like TF2, since you seemed to want to know. But no you just wanted to argue and debate why you think its one way and how I must be wrong to not think as you do. From that point on you have posted as if I personally insulted you in some fashion because I have a different opinion and see the game in a certain way and you don't. You have made every effort to insult me, because I feel the game is lacking nothing new that I have not already seen in TF2.

I have done nothing to perpetrate anything... if anything I have tried to explain my reasons and thoughts, and asked why you seem so upset over something so silly, and I have to ask once again, the last post is nothing but attacks and insult.. when there is no need for it. For what do I have to retaliate against? Its not like there is any reason too.. I think you are over reacting to nothing at all. Trying to make drama where there is none to be had.

I also like how you can assume to know me so well as to know why I posted anything.. you sir assume way too much. I posted my opinion of the game and welcomed others to share.. you have been the only one thus far.. so I must come to the conclusion that no one other than you here will be getting the game... the reasons why are their own. I wont be getting the game because it does not look like anything I would play, and because it looks like a clone of TF2 to me.. a game I don't really care for at all.

Now I am glad you will be getting the game, and I do hope you enjoy it, and that it gives you all the satisfaction your looking for... I have in no way at anytime meant to insult you or take from you the enjoyment of BRINK... I only offer my opinion and thought you were adult enough to appreciate my opinion as I do yours.

Good Day Sir.

Fair Enough.

What is it about Brink that you like?

I have to say that I do think the style ie the look of everything is pretty cool. Graphic wise it is very pretty. That future apocalyptic look is rather cool as well.

Id have to admit I would like to explore its environments.. thats the explorer in me wanting to see whats over the next bend. I would like to know if the world is as dynamic as it claims to be.. in TF2 your limited to small arenas, I wonder if the same is true for this game, or if you have a larger world to explore.

The more I look into this game I see other influences besides TF2, I also see Games like Tribes, Unreal Tournement, an games of that Ilk. All except for TF2 I enjoyed.

Maybe I have not given the game enough of a chance... The Character Maker, how you make your avatar in the game is really well done. A plus I had not considered in my initial assessment of the game.

Give me some insight into aspect you are looking forward too, an what makes the game a must have... there maybe something I have not considered in your thoughts or ideas of the game... look forward to hearing more from you on BRINK.

Well ... yeah it's pretty close to Enemy Territory. (Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and Quake Wars, and made by the same team)

The big things about the game are customizable, dynamic MP (drop in drop out while playing, no lobbies or anything like that. And it WILL have dedicated servers that you can run locally) Large objective based gameplay where you can really do whatever you want in the game and still help your team win or advance. There's a story on top of that, of course.

Not to mention the way the game treats classes is refreshing. You're not tied to a class, you can change it as well as your objectives almost any time.

Then there's also parkour ... you can scale the game and run around things to a higher degree than Mirror's Edge. Which I think is a pretty big deal. All of a sudden classes like scout make sense.

It's just a very open team game. It's really a step beyond the evolution of Enemy Territory. (I keep bringing ET up because that is what it's based on. The ET games have always been around class play in large teams with objectives and such)
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I have Enemy Territory, and enjoy it a bunch if the game is based more on ET than TF2, I may have to rethink my position on buying it or not. ;)

Well that's what I was saying, it's not based on TF2 at all. It's the same team that made ET and Quake Wars, and Brink, for all intensive purposes is ET3.

Yes, but IGN is a bunch of idiots. They have an article up about Portal 2 and how shallow it is and that it's just like Caddyshack ... and they claim this is a bad thing.

Regardless of what they're saying, just in general, IGN is full of shit.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a thread this long carried out by only two people. Congrats dudes!

Anyhow, let me interrupt that streak with what I think about the game :p

I haven't bought it, but I am interested in it. I love Enemy Territory (Wolfenstein free version) I still play it occasionally. I like class-based multiplayer. It keeps it interesting. With Brink it feels much like the maps are almost class-based too. I'll wait until I get a chance to play it first, before buying. I only have experienced it in theory (videos and talks) rather than actually getting my hands on it yet. So I think it sounds good on paper, but I look forward to seeing for myself.

I think If it has worked out the way they wanted it to, and the way I imagine in my head, it sounds like it could push the FPS industry into a new direction.

Which reminds, did you guys hear about Newell's comment on multiplayer modes in every new game from here on out?

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/26/no-more-valve-single-player/

It looks to me like if your game doesn't have multiplayer in it, it's not a lasting title. :uncertain:

I have to agree, people want to interact.. and multi-player allows them to share a game, a fantasy, a world, a theme with one another. I also think that game companies need to more actively adding in the ability to map or mod their games in some fashion. One of the reasons I still play CounterStrike: Source, is because I can map, and make models and so forth with it.

Could you imagine some of the PARKORE maps we could of made for Brink? ( did I spell PARKORE right? )

Parkour. I think the word is French.

I imagine Brink will have SDK junk eventually. They've always supported that stuff, and it seems like most of the parkour is more context sensitive, so you could, theoretically, make maps that utilize it better.

Afterall, the game is still running on the id tech 4 base engine (modified, obviously). Which is the engine used for Doom 3, Quake 4, and Quake Wars. So, I imagine you might just be able to use existing tools once they release some support. It's definitely something I think they'd HAVE to do, considering the focus of the game.
