erm, ive been researching the french saar offensive for a little while & while there is very little information out there I came across 2 places I think they fought the germans most during the campaign.

The Cadenbronn
Wendt Forest
Edit: Ive just found another site which refers to it as "Warndt Forest" - That might be correct actually.

Problem is, I cant find these on maps of germany (they might be the edge of france, but im sure its germany) & cant find any images of either of the places at all.

Im kind of guessing wendt forest is now called the black forest, but im really not sure. Could any1 help me? or perhaps point me to a site that might?

Germany used to be alot bigger than it is today so maybe try and find an old map of germany (before WW1)?

Edit: Just realised that this event was after the map change so I'm not sure sorry.

I was bored and came up with this information for you. It seems the 2 places you're after are not listed on my atlas yet I think I know where they are. I read a bit on it and it stated that those places were situated near the city of "Saarbrucken", which it right on the north border of france.

I doubt Black Forest is/was called Wendt Forest due to it being south of this place, maybe its a small forest that is only listed on local maps? Anyway I'll leave that up to u to decide.

I hope this helped.

small bit of info there kornflakes, which you probably have already. but like I say, french contribution to the war in comparison to the main Allies (US/UK/USSR) was negligible, and thus remains largely unreported...

it seems as though anyone wanting to launch attacks in the Saar region though uses the river... so theres a theme for one map already :E

They certainly sound German in name - though I haven't a clue where they are.

np, i'll keep looking for info.. quite interesting stuff when you read it  theres plenty of info on the American saar offensive though, so there may be useful geography if they took the same route as the French forces..

It's not too clear but it may help give you an idea of where the area is in relation to other areas.

edit: On closer inspection it seems to be alright, since is shows where the maginot line is.
