Not really sure what you mean either. If you just want to apply textures hit the texture application button (the multicoloured cube). In the box that pops up press browse. Double-click on the texture you would like and you will be brought to the main hammer view. Right-click on the surface you wish to apply the texture to.

Sorry if that's not the anwser you wanted, you were a bit vague.

It sounds like he means when bringing up the texture browser, he isn't getting any textures showing up. In that case, ensure you don't have the "used textures only" box checked, and that you haven't entered a filter term. If both of those are done, and still no textures show up - are you sure you have added any WADs to hammer?

I'm afraid thats the best I can do - simple checks, but I can't see what else could be the problem

He'd have to have at least one wad, hammer won't let you open a new map without one.

Hehe I think I've got what he means actually - by textures window, do you mean the 3D view per chance?

If so, it sounds like you have changed the 3D view from "textured" to "flat shaded" or "wireframe". To change it back, simply click on the words in the top left of the window, and from the resulting list, choose "3D Textured".

Hammer has a default "textures.WAD" file so you can open a new map without loading textures...

lol ReNo, how many a people have had that problem...

You sure hammer has that? I have 3.4 and since 3.5 is just an .exe it wouldn't be in that...

If you do a fresh install of VHE3.4 (not sure about 3.5) and you look in the texture options there will be a textures.wad there for some reason.

He just said he meant to put this in the radiant editor board wild, which suggests that this is perhaps a radiant problem, no? So following on from that, THAT IS NOT THE FIX  I have no idea I'm afraid waco, never used radiant  Korn or somebody might be able to help out, you should make a new thread in the radiant editor board and somebody will come along and lock this one.

No, it's used to transfer grid coordinates into the bsp tree. And the BSP tree happens to be very simular game to game, thus this is a 'universal' editor almost.

Its not necessarily for the same game, it could quite possible be for Q3 he is mapping, or any other game that Radiant works with.

No. Wrong again, you're so close to an ignorance beating

Like I said. They just use the same structure for the bsp file, that's all.

It is a commonly used structure ... its not the same game ... its not the same engine. The only thing the editor needs to be able to do is transform the grid coordinates into a readable manner for the compile tools.

However, I have no idea what he's actually mapping for. I'm just saying for radiant, in general.

Since when do Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, and Half-Life all have the same engines? Keep digging and you'll have trouble shovelling the dirt out your hole man

I think Im already there. But I meant that Half-Life took Quake's engine and modified it. I mean, you cant use Radiant to map for Max Payne or Unreal Tournament now right?

Gets a very bid shovel

Not Unreal Tournament, but I wouldn't be hugely suprised if you could use it for Max Payne, that could well be a modified Quake 3 engine game for all I know (though most likely isn't).

I'd say you were in the parking lot backing into pedestrians, as opposed to left field, but at least you were in a 5Km radius
