True loss to the music scene, John Peel has died aged 65

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/3955289.stm

His show was the most genre crossing eclectic mix available anywhere
today, and his eccentricities and personality gave him his unique
character and insight into music.

Rest in peace, JP - you will be sadly missed by music fans old, new,
young or wise. A true master of his profession, and a thouroughly nice
bloke as well.

Ok, he's a UK radio DJ - but he did sessions with lots of big name bands, probably some you like/know i'd wager Otzman

His main influences were over here, but he did sessions with everyone from the pixies to bjork, or sigur ros.

If you ever see a Peel sessions LP, thats him and the band doing crazy unreleased mentalness.

Though I never actually liked his program, it is quite an unexpected and sad thing  Never again will we hear him say "And now on the Peel show, Green Table Leg And The Mighty Nose" or the like.

I'm not very into music or musicians. Actually, I recall hearing the name pixies somtimes in the past.

I have a 'Pixies Live at the BBC' album which I believe were Peel sessions. Tis a shame he's gone as he did pave the way for many good smaller bands in the UK - and he also played a whole lot of weird stuff too.

John Peel undoubtedly did a hell of a lot for UK music. But if you ever listened to his show, he liked to tell people in the backround to shut up and work. I remember one time he yapped at how Mary Anne Hobbs was for laughing when he mentioned "In the Sh*t Records". A nasty man old man. Good tunes though.

Hardly nasty, I think a lot of that stuff on his show was quite tongue in cheek  I used to listen to it every night

And, mary anne hobbs deserves everything she gets for the "Radio 1 Rock Show". Talentless, and without taste

I could never tell when he joked, some people just have that kind of voice. Maybe I was too thick to get them. The latter, without a doubt.
