use this for reference

it says "battery is dead, replace"

battery was working 10 minutes ago..

yeah, its a stupid p100, but still, it worked a moment back..

question: i cannot seem to locate the damned battery, do they make them that do not look like a silver coin? most i have seen look like a nickle..

the diagram, doesn't even list a battery

My old screwed up NEC laptop had different kind of batteries. A small plastic shrinkwrapped pack with three small batteries inside it. Also, those were connected with copper wires. If that's the case it might be trouble with the wires.

I know my description sucks but if the batteries are of that type, you should be able to recognise them.

sadly no such luck frag

the only thing out of the ordinary is the "dallas time" chip

i cannot see that being it though :/

funny, i cannot see anything out of the ordinary, except the missing battery, and no before someone asks, there is not a receptacle missing a battery either

Apparently, it looks like a chip, so I guess it's one of those unmarked black rectangles on your diagram:

(PS a Google search for "M54PI battery" found this and more  )

Its a socket A right? That means either a Duron or Athlon XP processor. A 250Watt powersupply is ample juice. Expecially if your puting in a Duron processor. I bought (4 or 5 years ago) A socket A Duron with a 235Watt PSU (prebuilt by PC Blaster)

High end Athlon XP's recommend a minimum of 300Watts, so you'll be good. AMD processors are very tollerant of power.

Nope, my mobo manual just says that if your going to heavily load the system, IE lots of optical drives and hard drives, a minimum of 300Watts is required. Your 250Watter should do you good. Provided its not a cheap thing that runs so hot that the power output drops very low.

bumps

i am using an old thread, instead of starting a new one

ok..i need to force a computer to boot from the A drive, in order to reformat it..

i have looked several times in the bios, but it appears to already be set to do so..

instead, it checks A but continues past.

this is am old 300mhz gateway PC.. it originally used a rescue disk..

any incites would be appriceated..

for the record, this is the first pc out of dozens, that refused to boot from A, in spite of the 6 or 8 prior comps that also used rescue disks..

i think the bridge was damaged during shipment..

i cannot seem to access the A drive, and it cannot find the CD/Rom no matter what i try.. all i have after bootup is, the hard drive, which seems error free..

i am not sure what else to attempt.. i hate these 2 piece motherboards.. one wrong twist, and its history..

thanx for all the assistance crono.

yes, i am sure.. wires are ok,both drives are ok.. so i guess i have, more parts
