Can you use models from HL in HL2? And if so how, any converting needed?

If you have the source files for whatever 3D modelling program they
were made in then yes you could, but I don't think so if you only have
the .mdl. You might be able to decompile the model and recompile it
using the new model compile tool perhaps. I'm assuming here you mean
map models, and not character models, which you will almost certainly
not be able to use even after recompiling as the skeleton system has
changed hugely.
I'm going to mark this as answered, but if anybody knows any better then please correct me :smile:
