try bunging your mod under steam/steamapps/mail@mail/modname/modname/
then check games list / 3rd party mods.

I am an idiot: aparently.
<KoRnFlakes^> is it steamapps/mail@mail/ts/ts/
<KoRnFlakes^> or
<KoRnFlakes^> is it steamapps/mail@mail/ts/
<azelito> steamapps/mail@mail/half-life/ts
so your mod =
steamapps/mail@mail/half-life/yourmod/

Heres the problem I have with WP and steam. Yes, I put it in the correct folder and yes, it shows up under 3rd party mods. However, when I click on weapons patch in the third party mods section, the standard HL splash screen shows up(or of late, nothing at all happens, prolly due to recent patches) and theres no hint of anything weapons patch related, nor is there an activate custom game option on the new splash page. I have yet to be able to see the map as I went totally steam asap. I am pretty sure that WP will have to undergo a complete overhaul to be steam friendly. There is also the possibility that I have overlooked something completely obvious. If this is true, please let me know what that is.

I have been toying with it and still no luck ,heres what I have:
C:/Program files/Steam/Steamapps/Email/Half-Life/Weaponspatch2.2
This allows the game to be shown in third party mods.
Inside the weapons folder there are:
cl_dlls dlls
logos maps(which btw is empty)
save cfg
liblist.gam pako.pak
voiceban.dt
I also tried copying the weapons folder to the e-mail folder and no luck. Even when the HL splash page comes up and I try to create server, the only option I get is random maps. Gmdm2 is not an option. So I let it generate a random map and tried changelevel gmdm2, then crashy-poo!
I hope this helps you figger it out Gollum. I sure would love to look around that map. If worse comes to worse, you could port it over to HL2 (whenever that year is that they release it now due to certain recent events at valve). I'm sure the new engine could handle it.
Note: I notice that each authorized val;ve mod has a file called ".gcf" in the steamapps folder. Perhaps this needs to be incorporated into the WP dll????(Who knows?)
Good Luck,
Juim

Thanks for the information everyone. Especially thank you Juim for taking the time to give these details
It seems that Steam needs different splash screen setups for a start  I came across an article on Wavelength about this.
As for actually loading the map, I wonder if it's having trouble reading the PAK file? Almost all my stuff is in there. Perhaps exporting the map from the PAK file into a maps directory will help.
If I make any maps for HL2, they will be totally from scratch. No sense carrying around old baggage in a new game.

Right, sounds like PAK files are the thing. Still, I won't know until I try.
Time to get blown off by Steam  Wish me luck, guys.
