I have made a map sort of a test map to learn things and when I create
a prop_detail and give it a world model in shows up in the editor but
when I go in and play my map where I placed my prop_detail it says
ERROR in big letters for any prop_detail I put in there.

PS. THIS is for HL2-DM!

Try changing these props to prop_static instead of prop_detail.

Most world models should be prop_static. Only rocks, grass, and other
things should be prop_detail. World models already have specific
settings when you place them, and if you use the wrong type, then
you'll get an error. Refer to this page for more information:

I got the same problem when trying to place some HL2 specific items in CS:Source maps- basically I think the game is configured to give you a nice big ERROR sign when a model is missing, though you say you can see it in the editor... if changing the prop_ type doesn't work, what model are you trying to load, and does this happen for just one thing or anything you place?
