Sorry about the cross threading in the last post,

Just wanted to continue discussing the problem of playing HL2 through an impenetrable force field otherwise known as the company firewall.

I really dont want to do anything illegal but i know of people with cracked versions of HL2 that dont require them to register with Steam to play the game. However i dont know if this is true with CS:Source as well.

To tell you the truth all i want to be able to do is to work on my map at work and then send it home for compilation. There has to be some way of doing this legally. Shame i dont have a list of all the modified HL2 files so i could just copy them onto a CD.

It would be really sweet if i could play CS:Source here at work.

I think hammer runs without steam loaded, is that right? You could try putting username\sourcesdk\bin onto a CD, and running hammer having copied that folder back onto your work PC. Obviously you would need any textures you planned on using as well, or if these didn't fit, you could just do architecture at work and texture it at home.

Don't be so impatient, you can't expect every thread to have a reply within 20 minutes.

Um...actually Hammer does require that Steam be running. I don't think it works otherwise, or at least not correctly.

Sorry didnt mean to sound impatient, its just that there was a relatively small discussion going on in a previous thread about the same thing (post every minute or so), when i tried to start a new post noone seemed to care anymore.

Sorry about updating an old thread but.....

http://makeashorterlink.com/?R426226F9 - please allow it to redirect you.

Lets say that i some how managed to do what it said on this website. Bought in a harddrive with HL2 installed, uptodate with the clientregistry.blob thing done. Would it be possible (in theory) to copy all the HL2 files to several other computers, then start a CS:Source lan match?

If it didnt like multiple versions of the same CD-Key, can it be changed in the registry (like with HL) without f**king up HL2?

Ive tried coping the whole steam file to my second comp and it took like 20 min...but after a bit of tinkering it finally worked it copied over like 86% of the required files but no more . But sfter valadating it a bit it worked. does steam run in ur works computer on off line mode? if so you should be able to visit steampowered and valadate your steam files (possibily) i dont know what system your work runs on but it should do it. Alturnatively if steam runs on the work comp you could start up steam and dl the update files for hl2.

The main problem is that the company firewall block access to Steam. So ive been trying to figure out a way of getting a copy of HL2 (already validated) onto my work computer, without the need to connect to Steam, (obviously by legal means)

The only way that i see of doing this is by the hard disk...but wont it look a bit conspiculous when your hoking around inside their computers?(unless you get an external drive). if you have one of these you could try it.

Well would it surprise you to know i'm a QA Technician (Games Tester.) If i can find a way of getting CS:Source to run at work (at breaktime), then people will bow down before me and kiss me feet. Thats the theory anyway.

I plan to copy my installation onto other peoples computer, which then can then be shared over the network.
