The layout of the map is untouched as that was one of the conditions
for updating this so I can't really take any crits for it as it's not
mine. Fire away at the visuals if you like though. I made this for
Kustom Kettle and I'll be updating a few maps that are popular, but the
mapper doesn't want/have time to update the map and are giving the
source for someone to update. There are 2 more that I'm working on that
have good layouts, but look very dated, so those will be next.

nice pics (and nicely optimized too  )
ahem
1 question, from the angle the shots were taken, were you squatting down, in free look, or what? you seem either close to the ground in all three shots, or the textures are over sized.
very nice looking areas truly.

Those are from spectator pretty much against the ground, which would account for the wide angles.

There isn't much I can do about the open-ness...I can't change the
layout, and as it is the r_speeds are way up there. You should have
seen it before.

Why limit yourself by making a direct remake then? It seems that you cannot really do much in the way of visual upgrades with the current layout, so there isn't that much point in the project. Perhaps I'm just being overly cynical

other than the terrain, i see no blockiness issues. this setting is more/less cut from a real life attitude. i doubt you will see Greek columns or Italian arches in a setting like this.
/me likes it, but i must confess reservations about the terrain.
personally, i would be proud to have built a map this good.

There are actually models in the open areas, but as it stands in the very middle the poly count well exceeds 10k. There are sandbag models in every other area as well.

Gorbachev, there is a mighty fine map currently running on Australian
dod servers called dod_saints, and is the exact same map as this one in
layout and basic structural elements, though with different texturing
and some really solid design and high quality brushwork.
Did you make the original or is this one your working on a remake of
someone else's? I'm certain that saints is the same map as this one.
You might want to check it out.
[EDIT]
Sorry, I hadn't read your profile on the map properly. It would seem
that dod_saints is another version of cr44_b3 that uses most of the
original layout but changes the visual style completely. You might
still want to check it out, as I find it to be much better than the
original.

I talk with a few of the DoD team members...Saints was done by IR I
think (who made merderet/sturm and jagd as well.) I played Saints
through its betas before going official and I do like it, but it's
mostly underplayed. ( I like IR's style it is very clean and high
quality...but like my own it's just a bit too much for the HL engine.)
There will be a source version of this map...since it's the "official"
map for Kustom Kettle. Pretty sure Source will take a couple more
months, they're only just talking about which maps they plan to release
first.
As well, beta 2 will be ready within the next day or two. I fixed up a
ton of very minor gameplay and graphical glitches and it looks a lot
better too.
