How do I get on to the #snarkpit channel? I downlloaded an IRC client but can't figure out how to join a server....

edit:

I clicked 'join channel' and entered #snarkpit in the open area...nothing

I tried 'new server'.....entered that....nothing....I click join random irc channel....nothing......how the freak does this work? The help file blows.

double edit:

what is the server name? I tried /join #snarkpit and it gave me a messege: socket is not connected. Argh!
